Since there has been talk of black sheep, here are some from Lee Co that may be related to my husbands MARTIN family. If anyone can fill in any details I'd love to know more. Below is ALL I know about these people. (From some hard to read copies of some letters written in Rose Hill and Douglas, Lee Co VA.) 10 September 1883: Russell killed his father-in-law with an ax to the head. Also hit Mr Dean's/Lilln's (?) son in the head, but he is getting better. People think Russell will hang. Also: Evan(?) NEFF killed long Steve Thompson. Steve lived one day and one night. There is a reward out for him (Neff). 22 April 1884, Russell is going to be hung May 9th. He says he is ready to get it over with. Guess we will go watch him hang. (Russell could be a first name or a surname. Sounds as if he was fairly close to the MARTIN family.) 28 April 1884 Mike(?) NEFF in jail in Sneadville
