Marshall married Sarah E. Thompson 184? Is there anyone one the list able to look up marriages in Lee and/or Scott counties around 1847-1849? I need the date and any other information about William N. Marshall that married Sarah E. Thompson. I am also looking for clues as to the families of origin of the above couple. I have reason to believe that Sarah is part of the Thompson clan from Lee & Scott counties that are descendants of William Thompson & Elizabeth Starr Thorpe. Naming patterns of William, Elizabeth, Sylvanus, Alfred, Mary, Sarah, Benjamin Franklin, & Jackson etc run through most of these families for several generations :) - makes sorting them out challenging, to say the least! If anyone has any information, I would love to hear from you. I am going to try to established if Sarah Marshall is related to yours! Lewis Thompson and Sarah Gilbert had a son James F. Thompson and I believe the F stands for Franklin. I am a bit confused are you saying that there was an Elizabeth Thompson that married William P Gilbert and another William Gilbert married an Elizabrth Thorp, or that Eliabeth Thompson was actually a Thorp? I will keep working on this. I can't acess your brother's tree on Ancestry as I am not a paying member! Take Care an lets keep in touch... It would be wonderful to figure out some of these families! My brother has a Marshall and a Thompson family tree on his Ancestry website. Most of what is on there is from Ancestry and Rootsweb searches. At this point we don't have documentation for much of it, so we can't say for sure how much is accurate. Anyway you can see what we found on Ancestry - the member name is colbydraketaber. We have a 13 Gilberts on the Thompson familiy tree, including a William P. that married an Elizabeth Thompson, but not Lewis & Sarah. We only started working on this recently though, so it seems pretty likely we will eventually work back to them :) Elizabeth T. that married William Gilbert was a Thorpe. The Thorpe family is also combined more than once with both Thompsons and Marshalls, and I think the Lucas family might be with both as well. Near as I can tell, my William & Sarah's son Frank (Benjamin Franklin) Marshall's 2nd marriage to Hannah Thorpe was a probably a cousin marriage of some degree. My brother says there are 2 unrelated Marshall families in Lee Co VA & also in Owsley/Lee counties KY. That may be but the ones I have looked at all have the usual similar naming patterns and proximity (including into another state/county) so I think they probably are related. My family also connects to Hawkins co. through Ava Nancy Gibson (married Samuel David Marion from across the line in Lee), but we have yet to discover who her parents or any of her sibs are. The Marion's lived in Lee co for a time but moved several times and ended up in Iowa. Ava & Samuel's daughter Rebecca married a Thorpe (cousin to Elizabeth that married William Gilbert) and stayed in Lee co. I will copy this to the valee list in case any one else recognizes a tie in! Have a great day, Ariel

Hi Mary, You know that ia a good question and one I have tried to work on, but as yet I can't find much! My Lewis/Louis Thompson was in Lee Co, Va in 1835, but by 1837 he was in a part Claiborne Co. TN that later became Hancock Co. TN, also the Rev James Gilbert and Sarah Marshall also relocated to the same palce as my Lewis, he was married to their daughter Sarah Gilbert! Rev. James was the son of Joseph Hiram Gilbert and Nancy Cheek who are both buried a few miles from the Thompson Settlement Church. Lewis Thompson was born in 1813 in VA but that creates a problem as the census had not as yet started adding the names of family, but there are quite a few Thompson's that had a son in the right age groups in the 1820 and 1830 census. It has become quite frustrating as I know he has to belong to one of them!!! Take Care... Linda, the lot scans are of the Mount Mora Cemetery here in St. Joseph, MO. I should probably delete those now that we had the cemetery online. Hi Ariel, I also have a brickwall, Lewis/Louis Thompson b. abt 1813 in VA, was on the 1835 tax list in Lee Co. VA married Sarah Gilbert b. abt 1817 daughter of Rev, James Gilbert and Sarah Marshall daughter Of Thomas Marshall and Rossanah Buster? I have also read that William Gilbert married Elizabeth Thompson same area! I keep running across conflicting info on these families. Would love to share info with ya. My families ended up in Hancock Co. TN which was Claiborne Co.TN before 1844. Maybe we could work out some of these puzzles especialy the Thompson's. In the meanwhile I will start working on the Marshall's again! Also there are some researchers who made post in various forums and such who claimed that Elizabeth Thompson was a sister or cousin of Louis/Lewis Thompson so maybe your Sarah fits into this relation somehow? Take Care... Evie P.S. My email is: celticeviegen@yahoo.com

Thanks, Ariel

Is there anyone that could do a marriage look up for me? If so, I am looking for marriage of Franklin D. Shuler, born 1934 in Lee Co, VA. Father was Cassie Glen Shuler and Mother was Islona Lawson. He used the name of Dea so record may say Franklin or Dea. The marriage probably took place in 1953. Her name was Betty or maybe Betty was a nickname. I am trying to find her maiden name and hoping the marriage record will give it. Thanks for any help that anyone can give me. Sharon
