    3. Shirley, the 1870 census of this Ransom Eldridge in VA, age 34, wife Margaret, with oldest child Alex'r S, 12, born VA, the next younger children are shown as born VA, down to Sarah A., age 4, was born KY and two children younger than she born in KY.  So if this is correct, you can figure that Ransom moved to KY about 1866 or so from VA. 3. Interesting case, Shirley.  I did a search in ancestry.com for Ransom Eldridge, exact spelling, and found one in KY looks as  if he could be your lad.  The original record shows that Ransom and both his parents were born in VA (so if this is your ancestor, why would his parents have gone back toEngland if they were born in VA?) all those children were born in KY, so likely he married in KY.  If his parents left him in VA and returned to England, I'd say the census record is incorrect on their POB. the Ransom name is interesting, I have ancestors on the eastern shore of VA, there in 17th century, Gloucester Co, named Ransom/Ranson -- Peter Ransom, whose daughter, Ann, married John Boswell are my ancestors.  It's possible that Ransom is the maiden name of his mother or grandmother, you might sort of keep that possibility in mind as you look for his kinfolks.  Linda  1880 United States Federal Census about Ransom Eldridge Name:Ransom Eldridge Home in 1880:Precinct 6, Pulaski, Kentucky Age:44 Estimated Birth Year:abt 1836 Birthplace:Virginia Relation to Head of Household:Self (Head) Spouse's Name:Margaret Father's birthplace:Virginia Mother's birthplace:Virginia Neighbors:View others on page Occupation:Farmer Marital Status:Married Race:White Gender:Male   Household Members:Name Age Ransom Eldridge 44 Margaret Eldridge 38 William Eldridge 19 Sarah A. 3. A link to the Library of Virginia.  You can find quite a few records on line, have to prowl around in their database and figure it out.  They do have some Bible records on line.  and you can order materials from them, I found it expensive to do so, but $40 for a few pages of really important info is probably less expensive they a roadtrip to VA and hotels/meals there. http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/ ----- Original Message ---- From: R D F <red_dragon_farm@yahoo.com> To: valee@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2008 12:02:58 AM Subject: Re: [VALEE] VALEE Digest, Vol 3, Issue 70 Hi Nola - That is great that you will be going to get to do a research trip. 3. Hi Carline, Yes, Jonathan married Susanna Holmes, daughter of Robert Stafford and Nancy Arminta Olinger on December 15, 1851. Susanna was born 26th December 1834. I really need to find out more about Robert Stafford Holmes' family. Jonathan and Susanna's daughter, Rebecca married William Tritt about 1855. I've been trying to gather all of the information that I can on Rebecca and William's family. 3. Thanks. I know the various spellings of her name are numerous. I've also seen Wilmuth, Wilmeth, Wilmoth, Willmouth, and Wilmet! You would think it was different enough to find out who Mr. Ward is but not so far. Wilmuth was born in Lee County, VA and was born around 1841/42. She appears to have been previously married to a Larkin Vandeventer around 1859/60. I don't know when she married the Mr. Ward but Joel Taylor's will in 1868 specifies her as Wilmuth Ward. In 1874 they had a daughter named Ida Wilhelmina ward and she is my great-grandmother. By 1880 Wilmuth and Ida Ward are living in Leadville, Colorado but I don't know if she was divorced or widowed by that time. Thanks for any help. 1. [VALEE] Witt, Holmes, Thompson researchers
    2. Wanda, My gggrandmother was Polly Thompson, who married Samuel Tritt. Her sister, Annie, married Edmund Witt, who was the son of Anthony Witt, Sr. and Elizabeth (Betsey) Mace. Edmund had a brother, Jonathan, born about 1830. You say Jonathan married Susanna Holmes. Is this Susanna, born about 1833, the daughter of Robert Stafford Holmes and Nancy Arminta Olinger? The Susanna Holmes I have in my database, had a sister, Elizabeth, who married Isaac (Trett) Tritt. Isaac was the son of Jacob Tritt, who was the uncle of my gggrandfather, Samuel Tritt. I don't have a husband listed for Susanna. I have several Witts in my database who married Tritts, as well as others whom I have only name and possibly a birthdate. I also have several Holmes listed with just name and a birthdate. -- Carline God Bless America One Nation Under God
