2. Hi All: Happy Holidays! Just finished adding a couple of more things to the Hills and Hollers website. An article as to how Ben Hur VA got its name and a very interesting link to a website containing articles about SWVA history. Hope they help. I am working diligently on getting more information formatted and uploaded. If you have sent me data and it is still not there, I hope to have it done and posted by week's end. Thanks for being patient. 2. Jared Lothyan
3. In search of Nathaniel Phillips b abt 1816 in ?SC?. His daughter Charlotte was born in in abt 1840 Rose Hill, Lee county VA and married Elijah Thompson b abt 1828 (location unknown - family history says England or Scotland, but I suspect NC or SC. They had family in and around Harlan County KY and later liver in Dawson County GA for a time. Any information gratefully received. Our family has some pretty extraordinary stories of these people and we would love to share. Jared Lothyan Seattle WA

1. [VALEE-L] Buckhart/Burkhart King
2. Jared Lothyan
3. Listers, Thank you for your replies. All the suggestions and information is gratefully received. I have ordered a will for Anthony King in Lee County VA and will post anything I find. I don't know how he relates to any other Kings in the area. If someone does, perhaps they could enlighten me. I have also ordered some film for Harlan County KY, with hopes of finding the same people. I think it is there that I will find the Buckharts/Burkhartds. Does anyone know who Octavia King is? I find it highly likely that Anthony and Octavia are related, perhaps brother and sister. Two Latin names with the same surname is probably not just a coincidence. I'll keep you posted, Please do the same, Jared Lothyan in Seattle If anyone is interested in stories of Anthony King, let me know. His daughter, Katherine b 1863 was my mother's great grandmother. My mother remembers her talking about her father. He was wounded in the civil war and had a wound that wept. She remembers the terrible smell of the wound and what a cranky man it made her father. He later died of that wound.

1. [VALEE-L] Another update to the "hills and hollers" website
2. Hello All, Please let me apologize for the additional email tonight. I, as a list admin, try to abstain from sending "extra" email. In this case I think it is justified. Through the generosity of the Wise County Historical Society and the editor ((Ms. Rhonda Robertson) of their publication, the "Appalachian Quarterly", I have been given permission to post the first five parts of the "Gateway to the West" series as well as the sixth part I posted tonight. I felt that the information was of such importance to potential researchers that I have worked non-stop since getting the permission at 11 pm tonight, to create an index page, convert the articles to HTML format and get them posted tonight. They are ready for public viewing! I appreciate your comments or suggestions. Once again, I apologize to anyone upset by the extra email. Hills and Hollers index page (for AOL users) http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw Sincerely, Wayne Duncan Hills and Hollers Webmaster List Admin for: SWVA-NETN-SEKY-CHAT-L BIBLE-RECORDS-L MIGRATION-PATTERNS-L STATE-HISTORICAL-MARKERS-L

1. [VALEE-L] Update to the Hills and Hollers pages
2. Hello all: I have just concluded transcribing the first two sections of a wonderful article about Lee County and its mineral assets. The article is entitled "Gateway to the West" and was published in the December 2000 edition of the Appalachian Quarterly Magazine published by the Wise County Historical Society. I hope to finish the transcription of a few more articles this weekend. I would highly recommend that anyone researching family lines in this area subscribe to the magazine. This is my very first copy and I now know more about my home county then I ever imagined possible. It is my hope that I can continue to transcribe highlight articles from each edition and add them to the collection on the website. If anyone reading this email has information about any of the Southwestern VA counties and the surrounding areas of TN, KY, and NC and wants their information posted on the web, please contact me. I'll add it at no cost to you! If you have the information already in a digital format, that makes transition to the web even easier. I'm having a blast being the web cooridnator for the Genealogical Society. I am learning more and more each day. I hope you will take the time to visit the site and let me know how you like it and any suggestions for making it better.
