    1. [VALEE-L] Question re SAMUEL JONES m AMANDA SMITH et al
    2. nancy hammes
    3. 4/16/01 Hi Wayne: I have enjoyed reading about your Hills and Hollers website and read your last message on the VALEE mail list. I believe I may have read about H and H in the Wm Grohse papers, also. Perhaps someone has information on my above named gggrandparents. Their 1st daughter, ELIZA ADELINE JONES, b 09 Nov 1863 in Sullivan Co TN, m my great grandfather CALEB MILTON SEAL(E)(S), ( b 04 Apr 1854 Rose Hill, Lee Co VA) 23 Oct 1879 (not sure where). ELIZA was the oldest of 18 children according to family tradition. Some of her siblings are: CAL who m. MOLLY, BILL who m DORA, "DOC" and JIM. These siblings all stayed in BOONE and MONTGOMERY COs in IN after the families moved there sometime in the 1880's. I am hoping that perhaps someone may have information on an "incident" that occurred either in LEE CO VA or surrounding area, probably betweeen 1884 and 1886. It seems that my ggrandfather, CALEB SEAL, and my gggrandfather, SAMUEL JONES, and probably others, were involved in the "accidental death" of a fellow "fell" into a cave and died. I believe the incident was political, altho, back then it could have been some sort of feud, too. If anyone has information on any of the folks or the "incident" mentioned above, I would sure be happy to get it. I have much family info on the SEAL line from the late 1700's on forward that I will glad to share. Thank you to any one who has information or who can tell me where to look for it. Nancy/IL

    1. [VALEE-L] Hills and Hollers Website Update Notice
    2. Hello All: It has been busy around the Hills and Hollers website since the last update notice. We have added photos of Coke Ovens in Wise County, VA, fifteen more Lee County, VA historical pictures, a couple of biographies on the Fallen Miner Memorial page, a photo of the L and N Railroad, article reprints from the Appalachian Quarterly magazine, familylines and recollections of the Hicks family, the newest edition of the Old Timers Mining magazine and last but not least, the weekly statistics from the search engine so I know what everyone is looking for. I invite you to come see what everyone has shared. As always, Iook forward to getting your website submissions, requests and comments. Together, we are making this one pretty decent website. 1. [VALEE-L] Old Elizabeth Creech Cem or burying ground
    2. Marsil R. Creech
    3. I just recently was told that perhaps Jonathan Creech was buried on the land that he lived on when he died-1852. Was also told it was known as "The Old Elizabeth Creech Cem or burying groiund". Jonathan died in Lee Co VA in 1852 however most if not all of his land holdings apparently went with the parts of Lee Co VA that became Wise Co VA. Anyone know anything about this Old Elizabeth Creech Cem? Marsil in the land of UFO's, Aliens and weather balloons. Roswell, NM Shh-be very, very quiet. I am hunting forebears.

    1. [VALEE-L] Samuel Slone & Susan Young, m. 1865
    2. Patricia Hobson
    3. Looking for info re: Samuel Slone, b. 1825 Harlan Co. KY. Married : 1.. Elizabeth Clark, b. 1830, Lee Co. VA 2.. Susan A. Young Marriage to Susan Young listed as 21 March 1865, Lee Co. VA. Marriage book II. Samuel Slone listed as son of Samuel and E. Slone. Bride: Susan A. Young. Age 23-W. b. Lee County, VA. Daughter of R. & R. Singleton. Married 21 March 1865 by W. Muncy. 1. Other records list Samuel as the son of Thomas Slone & Barthena Brock Slone. Could the clerk have entered info re: Samuel’s first marriage rather than his parents names? 2. Does the W after Susan Young’s name indicate she was a widow? Or white? 3.. If Susan was a widow, what was the name of her first husband? 4.. Or, was Susan’s mother widowed & later married to Mr. Singleton? Also, I have never seen the original record; only what was published in a book of Lee Co. marriages. Any help in straightening out the mess gratefully accepted! Pat Hobson

    3. Is anyone researching the Stewarts and Collins shown below? I am researching the Daniel shown on the 1900 census and believe the earlier records may be his family. I am also interested in the Collins family. Maiden name of Daniel's wife was Collins. Any one that can assist with confirming or disproving that the 1900 Daniel is or is not the 1870 & 1880 Daniel please contact me. Daniel later moved to Oklahoma with some of his children after Elizabeth died. I would love to find relatives to share information. 3. They have those "Kodak Picture Makers" in a lot of places now, Walmart, Kmart, drug stores. They make great copies. But it varies as to whether they will make copies of portrait studio photos. It just depends on the attendant (or the lack of one). One Walmart in my area lets you operate it by yourself, so you do whatever you want and take it to the counter and pay for it. Another Walmart here has a photo attendant operate it, and they won't copy the copyrighted pics. --- VALEE-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ATTACHMENT part 1 message/rfc822 > > VALEE-D Digest Volume 01 : Issue 46 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [VALEE-L] photo help > [RJMOM34@aol.com] > #2 Re: [VALEE-L] photo help [Terri > Saylor <Terri.Jo@worldnet.at] > #3 Re: [VALEE-L] photo help ["Jean > Steele" <jsteele@itctel.com>] > #4 Re: [VALEE-L] photo help [Marian > Dunlap <mdunlap@effingham.n] > #5 Re: [VALEE-L] photo help ["Glad" > <kena@mounet.com>] > > Administrivia: > Administrivia: > Please help us support RootsWeb, become a member! > > http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html > > To unsubscribe from VALEE-D, send a message to > VALEE-D-request@rootsweb.com > that contains in the body of the message the command > unsubscribe > and no other text. 2. Hi All, I believe the 75 year copyright law only applies to items produced after 1977 unless the owner has renewed the copyright. You can check that out at the Patten Office web site. I don't know it right now, but I did check into the law when I was trying to find out if the books "Early Settlers of Lee County Virginia" could be reproduced. Those books do fall under the 75 year law and can not be reproduced unless the current owner gives permission. Hope this helps. Braydic@aol.com

    3. Some Wal-marts and K-mart stores have the machines were you can make your own copies in about 5 minutes. They look great and they don't loose a bit of quality. It scans the picture and then you get to choose what size and how many pictures you want. If you can't locate one of these in your area then I would take my business to another photo shop. If all else fails I would be glad to take the pictures to my Wal-mart and make the copies for you. You could overnight the pictures to me and I could overnight them back to you. Don't let one obstacle (or person) discourage you. There is always a way around things! Good luck!
