    3. Hi Tom , It is good to see someone working on this Ely famiily. I am yet another of those individuals trying to figure out the Ely family of Lee County Virginia. From "The Early Settlers of Lee County Virginia', I got the information that Catherine Ely married William Harris and from other researchers that this William Harris is a brother to my Sena Harris who is my Harris line. Sena is said to have had two children by an unknown ELY and my William Harris born 1832 Hawkins County Tennessee is one of them. I would appreciate any light anyone can shed on these people. Norma

    3. Hi Tom - I was interested in your response to question about Jane Ely, and would like to get your opinion on Catherine Ely. She is shown in Early Settlers as the daughter of William Ely, one of the sons of Thomas Ely and Jane Smith, dob @1785. Other researchers (e.g., Lee County Bicentennial) show her as the wife of William Harris, but the dob of his wife Catherine calculates to @1816. Do you have any info on William's daughter Catherine that could eliminate her as the wife of William Harris? Like perhaps another husband, or indication of moving from Lee Co? Or do you have a C different Catherine Ely, b. @1816? The connection between Catherine, wife of Wm. Harris, and William Ely as daughter to father is presented in numerous family histories on the web, but it doesn't make sense to me. I would appreciate your thoughts on the subject. Thanks so much. Carol, Jane Ely, daughter of Thomas Ely & Jane Smith, b. 1763 in Stafford, VA, m. May 8, 1787 in Montgomery Co, Va. to Rene Napier, Son of Patrick Napier and Judith Burk. There is an excellent book on this Napier line, "Dr. Patrick Napier of Virginia and Related Families of...." by Vava Knepp (yes, I spelled her name right), 1988, Vaughn Printing, Santa Monica, California. If your library does not have it, they can probably get it by interlibrary loan. The Ely line is quite well done in "Early Settlers of Lee County". Your dates and places are not matching up well here, this Jane Ely died in Ohio. Let me know if any of this fits, if you need more, or if you need more digging for another Jane Ely married to a Napier. Tom Ely

    3. Rootsweb has a virus list - virus-l@rootsweb.com. This read me and .pif are viruses - If I am not mistaken, it is the virus that changes the subject line, attachment name and extension, so it is very hard to detect. This list is very informative and I believe it is a must for anyone who received a lot of mail such as we do from fellow genealogists. So far my anitvirus picks up on everything, including [according to a user of Norton] some that Norton and McAfee have missed lately - and it's free!
