I would like to find what happened to the Zion Hobbs family. This is not the Zion who married Martha Grabel. The Zion I am seeking was born 1 March 1855 to Shelby and Lucinda(Zion) Hobbs. He married Mary Patterson, 19 Jan. 1877 in Lee Co., VA. She was a daughter of Thomas & Margaret "Peggy" Patterson. Zion and Mary had children - Emory C.; James S. F.; Willie; Rosa; Louisa; Lula M., and John S. I cannot find them on the 1900 Census of any State. They just disappeared. However, Rosa married Thomas P. Miller on 2 Sept. 1902 in Lee Co., VA. Someone told me Zion was buried at White Hill?? Any help appreciated. Dorcas
MPiros wrote with a question about a coroners jury. I would suggest contacting the Lee County Coroners Office; the Virginia Room in the Roanoke Public Library and the Virginia State Archives.
I am looking for a Capt Samuel Young in a malitia between the dates of about 1790 and 1800. The Samuel Young that I am looking for was a private under Col Campbell at King's Mountain. Thanks J. RAy Young
Owens Murder; Coroner Inquest My grgrandfather, Charles Lidy (or Lide) Owens, was murdered in Lee Co., VA on December 22, 1890. The how and why of this murder are unsubstantiated. We would love to know more about the murder, why it was done, and who did it. In court records of the settlement of the estate, entries are made for a "Mr. Cunningham, coroner," and for "twelve jurors on inquest." Does anyone have ANY idea about the procedures for the coroner's inquest? Who would have had the records? How long they would have been maintained? In which Lee Co. court office where we might make inquiries? Hello All: Sorry for the long delay between updates but life is pretty hectic around here as I prepare to leave the Naval Service after nearly 21 years. My retirement ceremony is next Thursday, so I've been very occupied making sure everything is in order for my family. I've been busy formatting the info sent to me by lots of folks. I have one more major project to undertake and have set it aside until my retirement ceremony has passed. This update includes new formatting of marriage files for the Meadows surname in VA, the Recollections of Carl R. Sage, the addition of more diary entries of Roger Hampson, the mining inspector of the late 1880s, updated search engine results, and a new feature I hope everyone likes, a photo scenery page of SWVA/NETN/SEKY. Well, hope everyone enjoys the new material. Let me know what you think! As always, the site can use more material. Hello, Does anyone have access to Lee Co. marriage records? I'm looking for the marriage record of Nancy Jane Walling/Wallin/Wallen to Arthur McTee in Lee Co. VA within the 10 years prior the 1830 census. Nancy Jane was born in Lee Co. VA ca. 1803. Any help would be appreciated. Gale
This link is not for POW's from Lee Co., but it does list those who died from Lee Co. during WW2. My grandfather, Hubert James Roberts, thankfully came back alive but he had two half brothers who didn't. I am developing a website for Virginia Counties and need someone that is familiar with this counties information to take a look and see if anything needs to be corrected or added. I especially need the website and physical addresses of the Local Genealogical and Historical Societies. Its located at http://www.segenealogy.com/virginia/vacnty11.htm I also have a map of the available censuses by state on a US map for all census years through 1920 at http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03.htm If you have a website feel free to link to anything we have. Thanks in advance. Becky Southeastern Genealogy Online www.segenealogy.com
Hi List, I am sending this to all the Lists I belong to ..so, if you see a double.... The Fentres County Historical Society has decided to reprint the old Fentress County History they must get 100 prepaid orders in order to do this because it is so expensive. The book is very beautiful and well done. It has over 700 pages with lots of genealogical information in it. It is well worth $100 and can be passed down from generation to generation. If you want the book please send the $100 dollars to Fentress Co. Historical Society Po Box1431 Jamestown TN 38556 If the Society do not get 100 orders they will return the money to you. If there are any questions , you may e-mail me MPiros1120@aol.com (Milly Piros) or genie2_38556@yahoo.com (Myra Smith) Milly WARD Piros List Administrator for TNFENTRE-L@rootsweb.com Fentress County TN <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/millyella/listofpages.html">A List of All My Pages</A> http://www.geocities.com/millyella/listofpages.html My Mind Is Like Lightning.....One brilliant flash and Pooooooooooffffffffffffffffffff it's gone..
My name is David Attride. I live in Jonesborough, TN. I have been researching the CRESS surname and its variants CRACE and CRASE intensively over the last year. I have information on about 2500 descendants of George CRESS (b.1739 York co., PA) who served in the Revolutionary War and then settled in northern Virginia. I know there were several Cress families living in Wise county in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I am planning a CRESS family reunion this August IF there is sufficient interest. I plan on having available copies of a printout that shows all known descendants of George "Revolutionary War" Cress. I am looking for feedback from anyone who is a descendant of George Cress even if they bear another surname today. I am especially interested in getting help putting together a list of living CRESS/CRACE/CRASE descendants. Please contact: David Attride at dattride@mounet.com
