Okay, Elijah Green Creech son of Elijah Creech and Nancy Spencer married Margaret McGuire, The lived in Lee Co KY. The children of Elijah and first wife were: ¦ Child 1: Isaac #2043 Child 9: Cilia #3145 ¦ Child 2: Elias #3138 Child 10: Mary #3146 ¦ Child 3: Jack #3139 (this is John) ¦ Child 4: Steve #3140 ¦ Child 5: Elisha #3141 ¦ Child 6: Jenny #3142 ¦ Child 7: Vina #3143 ¦ Child 8: Rebeckah #3144 These were the children named by Esaw Creech the son of Isaac and Mariah Pennington Creech-as children of Elijah. He did not name the children by the 2nd wife. There is also a possibility that Elijah was married between his Anglin wife and Nancy Spencer-her name was possibly Sarah hence the name Sarah was given to his Anglin wife. This middle wife could possibly be the mother of Enoch and maybe Clarinda. This needs proving. We have been unable to prove this thus far-working on it- Elijah did not have a son named Ira. That Ira belongs to Jonathan, the brother of Elijah. We do believe that Elijah did have a son named Alexander however-that aalso died at Camp Douglas POW Camp. Yes, Vanetta, Nancy Willis was married to Jonathan Creech the son of Nancy Wells Tompkins Creech and J. Creech. This Jonathan and brother Ward migrated to Jackson Co Ky and then finaly settled in Wolfe Co KY, Nancy Spencer was the 2nd wife of Elijah Creech-proven by deed by heirs in Lee Co -Wm Spencer. The Elisha that married Lavina Kilborn was the son of Jonathan Creech and his 2nd wife Jane Blair-proven by the court case in White Co TN-re Heirs of Thomas Robinson. Elisha Creech that married Priscilla Gilbert and he was born ca 1816 was the son of Elijah Creech. Early Settlers is misleading especially on the Creech lines. The researcher that submitted this info did not carry his research far enough-stopped too soon to be accurate. Hi There, REally do hate to tell you there are just a few mistakes in "Early Settlers". Just one of which is the name of Elijah;s 2nd wife-which was Nancy Spencer and not Wells. This is proven by the 1860 Lee Co Va census records for one and 2nd by the deed by heirs of Wm. Spencer of Lee Co Va. Nancy Wells the dau of Wm. and Susan Wells was married to a J. Creech; she then married Wm Brewster in 1856 and they moved to KY along with her 2 Creech sons. Nancy Spencer Creech is found in the 1860 Lee co census with some of her children. Also we at Creech Country do believe that Elijah was definitely married to an Anglin as his first wife and the dau of John and Jemima Anglin but not Sarah. The deed by heirs of John Anglin shows Sarah married to Joseph Spencer Jr. Jemima, her mother married Joseph Sr after the death of John. Marsil in HM ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cleland L. I have seen "Early Settlers of Lee County," years ago, and made copies from it. But, as we all know, published material is a secondary source and therefore, subject to many inaccuracies. I have great faith in Marsil's findings and published material because I can't imagine anyone could be more dedicated to primary documentation than Marsil! (It has taken me more than three decades to learn that because one reads it in a book doesn't necessarily mean it's a fact!) I do have a transcribed copy of Elijah's Death Certificate from Richmond, but it isn't exactly accurate! So, your Mary, b. abt. 1845? was the dau. of the 2nd wife, Nancy Spencer? That would make us 1/2-cousins, wouldn't it ... ? (Once removed!) Naomi

Good evening Marsil. It has been a while since I have seen or heard anything from you. According to Volumn 1 of "The Early Settlers or Lee County", it shows Elijah been married to Sarah (Sally) Anglin, the daughter of John Anglin the first marriage and the second marriage to Nancy Wells daughter or W and S Wells. Nancy and Elijah's daughter Mary was my Great-grandmother. If this information is not correct, PLEASE help me get straighten out. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you in advance. I have Elijah Creech borned 11 June 1779 in Old Dobbs Co. North Carolina. He died 1 june 1854 in Dryden, Lee County, Virginia. He was married twice. Once to Nancy Wells and once to Sarah Anglin. His daughter Mary was married to Campbell Thompson who was the son of Elizabeth Thorpe Thompson and William Thompson. Campbell was murdered and Mary remarried Jessee Thorpe, Campbell's 1st cousin. Mary had a number or children by Campbell and also a number by Jessee. One of Jessee and Mary's children was Henry. That was my grandfather. I suggest you try and get a copy of "Early Settlers of Lee County" Volumn 1. Starting on page 100 you will find a lot of information about the Creeches. If I can help you with this search, let me know. Naomi (and whoever else can help), Thank you for the reply. Yes, last week was busy, and like you, I have gotten information on other lines besides the Creeches and am running behind. I am having a tough time connecting with Elijah and Elisha Creech. I know the connection exists, but I can't seem to get these names sorted out. I have Elijah b. bef. 1819, married to Nancy Spencer, with children Clarinda, Vina, Jenny, Rebecca, Elisha, and Elias. I have an (apparently) earlier marriage for him, to "Unknown," with a son John b. abt 1810. I have three Elishas; (1) b. Feb. 17, 1816 in Lee Co. VA, m. Priscilla Gilbert; (2) b. 1825 in Harlan Co, KY m. to Lavina Kilborn, and (3) Elisha L. b. abt 1855 in Harlan Co., KY m. to Martha Virginia Robbins. I can't even get these Elishas to be related to each other. And thank you, Melva Pearce, for sending me a large amount of new info on the Creeches, but again, I can't figure out who is who to get them connected with what I already have. The Elisha in your records b. 1825 is shown with different parents than what I have; I have Mariah Pennington and Isaac Creech; you have Jonathan Creech and Jane Blair. Were there two Elishas born that year, or do I have some people in the wrong place? Or both? HELP! And thanks in advance. Marsil's post came in just as I was finishing this; so does this mean that Elijah was not married to Nancy Willis at all? If so, then I think half my above questions have been answered. I hope. :-) [And how are things in Roswell tonight?] Vanette

About the Anglins -- you could put all the information I have on the Anglin/Anglen family into a thimble and still have room left over! (Or something.) My Elijah CREECH married Sarah ANGLIN, allegedly dau. of John and Jemima ANGLIN about 1800, presumably in Lee Co., VA. She died abt. 1829 in Lee Co. ... and he subsequently married, 2nd, a Nancy WILLIS. Elijah and Sarah CREECH were the parents of my gr.grandfather, Stephen Nelson CREECH, who married Margaret Frances Elizabeth ("Peggy Betty") HICKS/HIX in Lee Co. Gr.grandmother Peggy Betty HICKS was the dau. of James and Lydia HICKS. (I don't have my CREECH records out, just now, except for Elijah's (paper) Family Group Sheet, but if I remember correctly, there is a Hicks-Hobbs connection just back another generation or two. (I still am hard at work entering my dad's maternal lines into my paternal online Ancestry.com family tree, but didn't want to pass up this opportunity to make a possible [quick] connection with some of my mother's CREECH lineage!) Naomi H.
Just one correction if I may-Elijah;s 2nd wife was Nancy Spencer the dau of Wm Spencer. I know that Naomi knows this but as she said, her papers were not in front of her. Hi list, I've been reading with interest several postings which included several of the surnames I am also researching from Lee Co. My Creech line includes Elisha, (b 17 Feb, 1816 Lee Co),son of Elijah. Also Elisha's and Perscilla Gilbert's son Wm. H. H. Creech and Wm.H.H.'s daughter, Sarah, who married Wm. Robt. Parsons. Also from Lee Co, Henry H. Smith/Smythe who married Selina Worley and their son Edward C. Smith. I need info on the parents of Wm Robt. Parsons, a James and Mary Parsons. Any help? Thanks, Barb

Hi there: I found your mention of Bradley Daugherty interesting and wonder if there is a connection to the Lee County-born Bradley Daugherty who married into my Sprinkle family. Bradley Daugherty, b. Dec 1873, married Cora Sprinkle Bruner on 27 Jan 1903, Greenville, Hunt Co., TX. I believe Cora was divorced from Sam Bruner. She had 3 children by Sam Bruner and 10 by Bradley Daugherty.
