Hi, Vanette. Do you have a Nancy HOBBS who m. James COMBS in Lee County, VA, about 1820? James COMBS was my ggg grandfather, and I need to prove that his wife was a HOBBS. For years I thought her name was YEARY. I'd like to compare notes with you. Cousin Mary in OK Mary Bryant Park crosstich@webtv.net
Hi, everyone, It seems I've had a breakthrough on more of my Hobbs line, at least part of which was in Lee Co., but does anyone know there's any relationship between Lee and Culpepper counties? They're pretty far apart on today's map. We either have some conflicting info, or different people with the same given names, or a family that was in Culpepper Co. before coming to Lee, or who knows what! Thanks for any help. Vanette Hobbs Hamilton
I am looking for info on the Orr Family's in Lee County. Can you help?
I am looking for info on a Sarah Creech the dau of John Creech and Mary Smith Creech. Sarah b. Oct 26, 1873 in KY probably Harlan Co. My records indicate she married first Henry Blanton 1888 Book 6 pg 520; Harlan Co. I also show only one child, Nancy b. Apr 1891. 1900 Harlan census she is shown as a widow living with her parents and it states 2 children. Nancy is listed as granddau and then there are Bradley and Elbert CREECH. Elbert I believe is the son of Sarah's sister Elizabeth who married Elbert Witt. Anyone know or have any proof of Bradley possibly being son of Sarah and Henry Blanton? Sarah's death certificate shows her name as Sarah Shackleford and husband Dal Shackleford. A descendent states that should be Dow Shackleford the brother of Benjamin Shackleford that married Rutha Creech the dau of Thomas and Celia Harrison Creech. Now here is another problem-an Orbin Day states he was raised by his grandmother Sarah Shackleford and his father was James Elbert Day. So who was Elbert and who was Bradley? And where does the name Day come into this situation? Bumfuzzled and confused in NM Marsil Marsil in the land of Aliens, UFO's and Weather balloons. We love Aliens. They taste just like chicken.
In the 1880 census in Lee Co, there is an Adams, appears to be Edmund C. or Edward C. The copy is not clear, but the wife's name seems to be Betty. There are also several children. Edmund/Edward is 55 years old then. Does anyone know anything about the history of this family? Wayne Adams
Need data on the history of the Saltworks. Is this the same saltworks mentioned in the court records of Sequatchie Co. TN? They made reference in getting their county salt from the Saltworks in VA. Thanks. Eleanor
Seeking data on the dau of William and Catherine who married Adenston Rogers. Only know that she died leaving four children--George, Commodore, Mary, and Joseph. What Lee Co. census records are William and Catherine found on? Do they die in Lee Co. and are there deed records? Thanks. Eleanor
The page listed below contains a description of "Pathfinders, Pioneers, and: Patriots", an extensive Historical CD I recently completed, with ordering instructions for those interested. I would appreciate any assistance you could provide me in getting the word out. Also a link to a Free Historical Timeline that focuses on S.W. Va., E. Tenn., and E. Kentucky History (to 1800) that you might find interesting. Enjoy the free resource and share with your friends. http://www.mounet.com/~echo/ppp.htm Thank you for your time and assistance. Seeking descendants of John and Delilah. He was born in Lee Co. ca 1780's. Married to Delilah ca 1807 in Lee Co.(?). She was born 26 Dec 1786 in Lee Co. VA and is thought to be the dau of a Frederick Jones. Their issue: 1. William m. Keziah Sawyers 2. Margaret m. Buckner C. Howard 3. Rebecca m. John O. Johnson 4. Ferderick m. Jane Pitts 5. Mary 6. Thmas m. Mary Walker 7. Elizabeth 8. James m. Sarah Walker 9. John Haywood m. Martha Maxwell Kirklin 10. George m. Amanda Carnes 11. Daniel Jackson m. Keziah A. Kirklin They apparently left Lee Co. and moved to Bledsoe Co. TN quite early as all of the marriages took place with those well known families living in the Sequatchie Valley. With the changing of the county lines it is assumed that they didn't move, but were placed into the newly created Marion by chance not choice. John died in Bledsoe Co. 19 Dec 1833 before the change had taken place. With the changing of the county lines the family lived in Bledsoe, Marion, and Sequatchie Cos. Deliliah is supposed to have died in Rhea Co. TN. Data needed to profile this family. Thanks. Eleanor
In 1909 my grandfather owned about 7-acres of land described as being on the East bank of Hardies Creek, near the old Grabeel Hill, and adjoining land owned by John Cottrell. I believe it may be near Jonesville. Can someone out there pin-point the location for me and better yet, perhaps give me directions.
Hi, does anyone have an index to the 1920 census that would do a lookup for me. James Kelly age abt 48 Polly J. age abt 37 Thanks
