    1. Re: [VALEE-L] To the List Manager/Reply Mail
    2. Recently, the List Manager on one of the Rootsweb Lists that I subscribe to did a trial change so that the messages went to the sender. Members of the group complained and he changed it back so that when 'reply' is clicked, the messages now go to the List. I, too, am disappointed that we get questions only on this list. The list would be more beneficial if there were questions and answers. If someone wanted personal answers, they could request them in their message. I do not know how to be a list manager. Does anyone know how to be our List Mommy? SueBee

I think we subscribers are often missing out on valuable Lee Co. genealogy because replies are not going to the List. If everyone who subscribes to the List would just watch the "to" field when they reply and make sure it says VALEE-L@rootsweb.com then we can work around the problem. That can be in one of two ways (at least it works this way for me): (1) click "reply" and manually enter VALEE-L@rootsweb.com or (2) click "reply all" which should put both the sender and the list address in the "to" field; in that case, just delete the sender's address. Hope this helps. Margaret

    3. Looking for descendants of John Bishop and his wife Elizabeth. Thomas Bishop is probably a brother or son. Land transaction in 1803 for 100 acs. opposite land of William Geoge on Clinch River. Also 30 acs with a mill lying on the Blue Springs branch which was bought from Adenston Rogers. Thanks. Eleanor

    3. Need data on Denison (Adenstone) Rogers. Was granted land in 1816 in Lee Co. which had originally been Warranted to Joe Crabtree in 1780. The location of this land is generally given as 50 acs on the N Fork of the Clinch, a corner to Daniel Ash. However, on the Entry book it looks to be near William(?) Wallings imporvement and does not mention Daniel Ash. At present I only have him traced in the Land Tax Books for 1817, 1818, and 1819. I am in the process of separating ALL of the many Adenstone Rogers to come out of this area. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Eleanor

    1. [VALEE-L] Re: VALEE-D Digest V02 #58
    2. Hello Corinne, Julia (Juline) Johnston/Johnson & James Bledsoe are my great grandparents. I don't have their death certificates, yet, but they are on my list to order. I've received their son (my grandfather), Evin Parkey Bledsoe's marriage certificate to my grandmother, Victoria A. Sprinkle & her death certificate. They couldn't find my grandfather's death certificate, because I had his name spelled Evan? Hope to get them all soon. I will let you know. Evin was killed in an explosion, in the coal mines, when my Mama was two. He's buried in Lee Co., VA. Victoria, my grandmother died, when I was 5 1/2. I remember her funeral, in Fairview, Scott Co. VA & visited her grave this past September 10th. In 1975, my Mama, Edith Bledsoe Harris went to her grandfather, James Bledsoe's homeplace. She sold her part to one of her first cousins, Estelle Phillips Fleenor, as did all the other descendants. Estelle was married to Harold Fleenor & they had lived on the place & taken care of it & paid the taxes for 30 years or more. (MaMa) Edith's father, Evin & Estelle's mother, Elizabeth Margaret were brother & sister. I have: James Bledsoe (b) May 12, 1855, Fairview, Scott Co. Va (another source April 5, 1856) (d) Mar. 12, 1932, St. Charles, Lee, VA (another source Mar. 14 1933) Julia Ann (Juline) Johnson/Johnston (b) June 6, 1860, Scott Co. VA (d) July 21, 1934, St. Charles, Lee, VA My Mama (Edith) was also born in St. Charles, Lee, Va. Mary Harris Carey MCarey9595@cs.com

    3. Hi List: Well, a little more digging and I did find a gedcom submitted to Ancestry.com by Jeannie Stafford Dobbs which has Julia Johnston/Johnson who married James Bledsoe as having died in Lee Co., abt. 1938. Is there any way to locate an exact death date so I can order the death record? Corinne

    1. [VALEE-L] Nancy Johnson/Johnston m. Franklin Sproles
    2. Corinne Chadderdon
    3. HI List: Well, the years have come and gone and I am still no closer to finding the surname for my ggg-grandmother, Rachel Unknown w/o J. Campbell Johnston/Johnson. I have decided to try to track down the death dates and places of each of their children and start to order death records in the hope of finding a surname listed somewhere. It seems that the youngest ones would have the greatest possibility of having an actual death record with all the info listed so have decided to start with them first. J. Campbell Johnston b. 1819 Washington Co., VA and Rachel b. 1822 VA were probably married in Smyth Co., VA about 1837/8. No marriage record has been found or I wouldn't be writing this. :-) Their first three children b. Smyth. Moved to Scott Co., VA abt. 1846. Their next 13 or 14 children being born there. J. Campbell Johnston/Johnson dies in Lee Co., VA in 1885. Several of their younger children married in Lee Co. Have not been able to find a death record in Lee Co. for Rachel. The last record I have for Rachel is in the 1880 Lee Co. census in the home of Cam Jonston. Those children still living at home in the 1880 Lee Co. census are Eliza (may be Elizabeth Margaret), Squire, Walter, Nancy and Thomas. I found a marriage record for Nancy E. Johnson m. Franklin Sproles on 24 Dec 1899. Is this Nancy the d/o J. Campbell and Rachel Johnston/Johnson? She must have married late, if it is her. Are there any other marriage records for these children? Did Rachel possibly marry again? Corinne
