    2. Leslie Ann Ballou
    3. Dorothy~ I was wondering if you could do me a favor. About 3 years ago you sent me some Census information regarding Quesinberrys. I need to verify the household of Miles Quesenbury in the 1870 census for Lee Co., Jonesville Twp The household members I have listed are Miles, Elizabeth, and Andy. Someone else told me that Nancy Stuart was living with this family, but I don't have record of that. The email that I printed from you says it is page 1 of 2 and I only have page 1, so I must have lost it, or this other guy doesn't know what he is talking about. This Nancy Stewart (the Nancy that Barbara refered to) was the widow of William Henry Stewart and the sister of Miles Quesenbury. I have been trying to find what happened to her after William's death with no luck. Nancy is also the mother of Alexander Quesenberry who was married to Rebecca Jane Smyth. Some people think that Nancy and Alex were brother and sister, but siince they were 22 years apart, I don't think so. We think that somewhere down the line this bunch of Quesenberrys are somehow related to the bunch that Barbara mentioned because of the name's Ben and Charles, and of course Alexander. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, Leslie Ann -------Original Message------- From: VALEE-L@rootsweb.com Date: Monday, May 20, 2002 07:27:20 To: VALEE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [VALEE] QUESENBERRY--Cole, SmithSmyth, Suttles, Wyrick, Daughtery,Wilder,Hobbs Barbara, I may have some info you. 3. Recently I have received numerous mailings with a variety of names of people apparently on the Lee Co. mailing list that refer to a virus and that I (or anyone else) may be infected. My question is this... are these legitimate messages from list associated people or is this actually a virus spreading itself by copying addresses and forwarding itself. If you have sent one of these messages to the list, please confirm this. Several confirmations should give an answer. Thank you, John Darst _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

    2. Carol (and other interested folks), I have lots of ROBBINS, PENNINGTONS, and PARSONS who married into my HOBBS line from western VA counties. Do you have Elizabeth ROBBINS b. abt. 1775 who married John ASHCRAFT b. 1772? I don't have anything more on either of them except for their children. Their line eventually married into my ROTH and CRISS lines in WV. I'm also interested in PENNINGTONs who migrated to Jackson County, MO. One was Susannah PENNINGTON, daughter of Edward, who m. Abraham CHRISMAN. The CHRISMAN's were bankers in Independence, MO where I live. I'm finding that a number of families came from Lee Co. to Jackson Co., MO and I'm trying to find out how I may be related to them. Some of the others who came are JONES, PARSONS, FLANNERY/FLANARY, and ERVIN. Always glad to exchange info! Vanette (Hobbs) Hamilton in MO

    2. Barbara, I have the PENNINGTON's (my grandfather on my mother's side) back to 1594. I am also related to the PARSON and ROBBINS families. Our library has a wonderful genealogical corner that has all Census records, marriage, death records, plus other info listed in book form in the Reserved Section. If I can be of any help, please let me know. I visit the library at least once a week. I am searching for the ancestors of my Robert Stafford Holmes and would appreciate any help with that line. I only have it back three generations. Thanks Carol G Bledsoe Benson

    3. Friends, relatives and genealogists in general: The President of my local genealogical society has just passed a warning regarding California SB 1614. If passed, this bill will close all inquiries to birth and death indices in California. The Senator sponsoring believes that this will put a major dent in identity theft. The Senator apparently has not considered what impact it will have on genealogical research. It is my understanding that the CA Senate Appropriations Committee plans to vote on the bill Monday, May 20. California is the largest state (population wise) and can have a major impact on other states. I live in WA and we're more closely tied to CA than we sometimes care to admit. If this is of concern to you, please email one (or all) of the following: Governor Gray Davis governor@governor.ca.gov Sen Jackie Speier (author) senator.speier@sen.ca.gov Sen Dede Alpert (Chair, Appropriations Comm.) senator.alpert@sen.ca.gov. The men jealously guarded their right to remain in their home area as a solemn promise, throughout the war, even while the infant Confederate States crumbled around them. The 64th Virginia Infantry was formally created on December 14, 1862, by the consolidation of the 21st and 29th Battalions of Virginia Infantry. Thereby forming a full Regiment, all Muster Rolls of which are herewith transmitted except one muster roll which was sent back to the Regiment for the Captain's signature. This Regiment will now have to be numbered as a new Virginia Regiment laying aside its battalion number (21). 2. Michael O Reck
    3. Descendants of George R. FLETCHER Generation No. 1 1. George R.4 FLETCHER (John Goldsmith3, George R.2, Joseph1) was born 22-March-1819 in Lee Co., Virginia, and died 05-September-1913 in Pilot Point, Collin Co., Texas. He married (1) Mrs. OAKS. He married (2) Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" HURST 19-November-1840 in Claiborne Co., Tenn., by James McNutt, J.P. (Source: Hattie Byrd MUNCY BALES, Early Settlers of Lee Co. Va. and adjacent Counties, Vol. II by: Hattie Byrd MUNCY Bales, (1977).), daughter of HURST. She was born 08-April-1824 in Tenn., and died 24-August-1899 in Wise Co., Texas. Notes for George R. FLETCHER: After the marriage of George R. FLETCHER to Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann HURST in 1840, they remained in Claiborne Co. Tenn. for ten years or more, later moved to Lee Co. Va. where April 24, 1852, he purchased land, lying on the south side of POWELL River, adjoining Francis A. MUNCY's land, near the Thompson Settlement Baptist Church, from James and Lucy Sims. (Deed BK. 12-175) February 5, 1855, he purchased a small tract from Jefferson Neff and wife, Eliza (Deed BK. 14-172) George R. FLETCHER remained here for several years where several of his children were married. December 30, 1869 George R. FLETCHER sold all his land, lying on POWELL River in Lee County, to Jefferson Neff. (DBK 16-4) Sometime after selling his land George R. FLETCHER moved to Texas. According to tradition, they moved in wagons and hacks, and his wife Betsy Ann drove a team and hack all the way to Texas. It took them six weeks to make the trip, and after arriving in Texas, they settled in Collin County, where they were living in 1880. According to tradition, around 1869-70, the Doyles, Fletchers, and some of the Muncys (those who intermarried with the Doyles and Fletchers) sold all their land holdings in Virginia and moved to Texas to find and establish new homes for themselves and their children. They left Lee County, Virginia on a boat they had built on POWELL river, near the POWELL Ford. Eventually, after waiting several months for a "tide" to move their boat off -the river was too shallow in places to accomodate a large boat -the day came for their departure. Old David Doyle had charge in the adventure. They went to Chattanooga, Tenn. where they sold their boat, and from there to Memphis, Tenn. by train, from there part of the way by boat down the Mississippi river, and by train and wagons. There was only one railroad in the State of Texas at that time, and paved roads were unheard of. After arriving in Texas they settled in Collin County at first, where some remained while others moved to different places.
