    1. [VALEE] Names on documents
    2. Someone wrote...The marriage book (1845) says the woman is Jershua Riggs, but her own son's birth certification says Jershua Ridge. I tried to use the census to solve the problem, but I find that marriag, birth and death records only prove that someone has at one time lived. They are not always accurate..but close. It depends on who the person that gave the information and exactly what they knew. On my mother's birth certificate her father's name was written wrong. Yet I know what his name was. Mine was spelled wrong and my mother had it fixed. They just crossed out Elladine and wrote over the top Elladean<<< the correct spelling. Milly WARD Piros GOD BLESS AMERICA ! Can't remember Grandpa Brooks' name, but Grandma was called Neely, I think. It sounds like there is a connection. I remember one uncle whose name was Ira. Thanks for the info John Brooks

    1. [VALEE] Sarah Bishop vs Sarah Wassum m Andrew Love
    2. Sandra McBride
    3. Janice, I agree. There is a marriage record for Sarah Wassum and Andrew Love. I have searched for a marriage record for a Sarah Bishop to a Wassum but haven't found any. I had the name Bishop many years ago from a family Bible and from older relatives so I am relatively sure that was her maiden name. I had not heard of the name Wassum until I found the marriage record. In 1860 (Lee County) Andrew and Sarah were living next door to Frances Bishop who was born in Claiborne County, TN. He was two years younger than Sarah and I have wondered if he was her brother. If anyone has a clue to this mystery, I sure would be interested. Sandra McBride sandym26@attbi.com > Can someone tell me what the evidence is for Andrew Love's marriage to Sarah > BISHOP, as opposed to Sarah WASSUM. 3. I am having the same trouble. The marriage book (1845) says the woman is Jershua Riggs, but her own son's birth certification says Jershua Ridge. I tried to use the census to solve the problem, but it has only made things worse. In 1840 there is a Samuel Ridge. In 1850 there is a Samuel Riggs. Makes you wonder if they changed their names back and forth. Good luck on your problem. 3. Can someone tell me what the evidence is for Andrew Love's marriage to Sarah BISHOP, as opposed to Sarah WASSUM. The latter name was given in the records of Smyth County marriages (1833). Is there an earlier record of a marriage for Sarah to a Wassum (she would have been very young)? I'm curious because I'm descended from Bishops who moved to Washington/Smyth County, VA ~1775. My branch moved on to Claiborne/Hancock County, TN (~1800), then Lee County, VA (~1825). She could be connected to those Bishops, but I'm not aware of any who were born in North Carolina, and in all the censuses she consistently stated that was where she was born. Nevertheless, it's interesting that Andrew and Sarah were living next to Bishops in several censuses. Janice Zengel Ellicott City, MD Surnames: Bishop/Clark/Cole/Hopkins/Weaver

My Lee County great-grandparents were (1) John Seabolt and Cynthia Jessie DaVault; (2) Charlie Allen and Nora McConnell. Nora's parents were William G. McConnell [s/o Thomas Price McConnell and Lindy Phillips] and Mary Kilgore [d/o Stephen Kilgore and Elizabeth Allen]. William G. was from the Scott County, VA McConnells but moved to Hancock County, TN after the Civil War. My grandparents were William Dewey Seabolt and Alpha V. Allen who were born and died in Jonesville, Lee County. I would like to exchange information with anyone researching these families. I would be especially interested in finding information on the Love and Bishop families. I believe they came to Lee County from Smyth County but I haven't been able to find the parents of Andrew Harvey Love or Sarah E. Bishop. Sandra McBride Highland Village, TX sandym26@attbi.com
