Thank you for the response. The 1850 Lee Co., VA census record indicates that Aaron Roberts was married to a woman named Susan (not to Mary Goode), as does the 1860 Morgan Co., KY census record. Could it be that Aaron Roberts was married twice? And if so, when did he marry Susan (Day) or whomever she may be? Also what is the documentation for the marriage to Mary Goode? Brenda Reed
Barb & Jenny mentioned they were researching the Marcum family. The Marcum family connects to the Sprinkle family when Nathan S. Marcum married Synthia Ellen Sprinkle, 23 Jul 1876 in Lee Co. Nathan's parents were Joseph Marcum & Nancy. Nathan & Synthia's children are said to include: Leonia, Alvonia, Lorinda, Joe, Riley & Flora. Is anyone working on this Marcum family? Margaret

Brenda, You have helped me so much in the past, I hope I'm helping you now. I may be confusing things. This is not my direct Roberts line until you get to Shadrick and when I was younger and foolish, I didn't document like I should have but here is what I have. I do have Etta C. Ward, daughter of Dawson Ward & Emma Lawson. They are cousins of mine. Hubert Earl Castle of Kingsport & who died in 2003 is my uncle. My mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Castle Keck Harmon, died in 2000. All but one of my mother's siblings have now died -- only Willa Mae Castle Johnson is still living & she & I are very close. My grandmother, Pearl Ethel Ward was married to Bradley James Castle; they lived at Stickleyville about a mile up the road from the elementary school; their farm was sold at auction in the early 1980s after my grandfather's death. I lived on the farm with my grandparents at Stickleyville when I was a little girl. Brenda Reed
Gerri - Who are you working on with the Wilders? Rene' IDEAS TO CONNECT WITH THE ALMIGHTY Have a constant awareness of our Father, our King, Creator and Sustainer of the universe. As soon you think of the Creator, you immediately connect with Him. Think of Him often. Feel a sense of awe for the Creator by frequently contemplating the size and complexity of the universe. Realize that you are created in the image of the Creator and you are His child. When looking in a mirror, say to yourself, "You are a child of the Creator." Everything you have in life, you have because it is a gift from the Creator. Be constantly grateful. This gratitude creates love. The Almighty loves us more than we love ourselves. Frequently say to yourself, "The Almighty loves me even more than I love myself." Realize that everything that the Almighty causes to happen in your life, He causes to happen for a positive purpose. Some you will recognize, some you won't. Frequently repeat, "This, too, is for the good." Respect each human being because each human being is created in the Almighty's image. When you do an act of kindness, you are emulating the Almighty. Do so frequently. Every prayer you say, whether formal or in your own words, is an expression of connecting with the Creator. Make a blessing to thank the Creator before and after eating. This adds a spiritual dimension to the food you eat. Thank your Father, your King, for each and every breath. Since you are constantly breathing you are always connecting with the Creator. Let your trust in the Almighty's love for you give you an inner sense of serene Trust. Every life situation has been sent to you as a test and challenge from the Creator to help you grow and develop your character. Don't speak against or harm the Almighty's children. Thinking of this and acting accordingly connects you with the Creator. Realize that you are never alone. Wherever you are, the Almighty is always with you. Speak to Him in your own way and ask for your wants and needs.
Brenda, thank you for searching this out. I agree that we are talking about the same person. I appreciate your sharing. In your Ward line, do you have Etter Ward Lawson who was married to Lawrence Lawson (both deceased)? They lived near Mtn. View Church. And do you know the Hubert Castle family? In reviewing the US Census records for Lee County, VA at Rocky Station I found the following information. 1920 -- Thomas & Martha Lawson were enumerated with a baby girl, Ethel Lawson , age 3 yrs & 5 months. 1930 -- Thomas Lawson, now age 83 and a widower, was enumerated in the household of his son, Emmett Lawson as head of household. Ethel P. Lawson was listed as Emmett's half-sister and was age 13. Martha had died some time between 1920 and 1930. Thomas then died 25 March 1931 at Rocky Station and was buried in the Lawson Cemetery located near the Mountain View Baptist Church on the Lovelady Ridge above present-day Stickleyville. My grandmother was named Ethel Pearl Ward. Martha Chafin Lawson was sister of her mother, Eliza Barbara "Lyde" Chafin Ward. Martha & Eliza "Lyde" were probably close and Martha may have felt very close to my grandmother as Eliza died in 1903 leaving behind six young children. My grandmother Ethel Pearl Ward was born in 1896 at Rocky Station, not far from the Mountain View Church. James & Jerusha Chafin owned the property next to the Mountain View Church, later owned by their son Henry Chafin, who gave the cemetery to my grandmother Ethel Pearl Ward Castle, who gave the cemetery to the Mountain View Church. I hope this helps sort this out. Brenda Reed

Correction: Martha "Mattie" Chafin married Thomas Lawson (not Henry Lawson), son of Stokeley Lawson & Matilda Ash, on 15 November 1913 at Lee County, VA. Mattie was the daughter of James Henry Chafin & Jerusha July Edens. You stated that your Mattie Chafin Lawson was a very pretty woman. I have photos of my grandmother Eliza Barbara "Lyde" Chafin Ward, who was Mattie's sister, and she was a very pretty woman -- a trait passed down the family line to my grandmother and to my mother & her sisters. I also have photos of my grandmother, Eliza's daughter, when she was young & she was a very lovely young woman. This was the only Chafin family in Lee County at the time. Other Chafins could be found in Russell County & would be cousins to James Henry Chafin. I know of none who could be a different Mattie Chafin. I do believe my (?) Mattie is one and the same as yours. Thanks, Brenda Reed
