    3. Judy Davidson, Do you by any chance have another book of Virginia and if so please let me know the price? My ancestors came from Virginia to Kentucky and I am very interested in purchasing a book. Lisa [email protected] -------Original Message------- From: Judy Davidson Date: 03/06/05 00:13:24 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [VALEE] Pictorial Book Thanks Sue. I and the rest of the persons who worked on the book appreciate your comments. We had so many pictures we were unable to use we would like to use them and as well as what people would give us sometime later to do another one. We would like for people to think about sharing some pictures with us. Of course, this is down the road. We have already had some to tell us they have pictures and they just didn't get them out. Thanks again. 1. 1900 Lee County, Va census lookups
    2. Hi I am sorry I did not make it to the Chat Room last night. I had planned on having the 1900 Lee County, Va census available for lookups. I can do lookups in the 1900 Lee County census for you if you would like, just be specific In what you want. You can email me directly at this address or [email protected] I am on digest mode so if you post your request to the list it will take a few hours for me to get them. I am going to at some point put the 1900 census up for Lee County but I am still trying to get the 1930 census images up Carol Smith Turner

    1. Re: [VALEE] 1850 census look up for Smiths
    2. Marian I also belong to ancestry.com. I think what you should do to search is to click on the exact year 1850 then when the yellow box comes up click on EXACT Match....Type in the SURNAME ..state and county. I did that for SMITH and came up with 63 in Dist 31 Lee Co VA. Ialso did the same for the yellow box and it brought up 3000 for all over the states.. 1. Francis Mullins, Wife of William Sturgill
    2. I am looking for information on the wife of Wiiliam Sturgill (born abt 1833, VA), Francis Mullins. She is listed with him on the Wise Co. 1860 Census as being 26(or 23) years old, so born abt. 1834 (or 1837). The children listed in 1860 are: Nancy, age 8; Andrew, age 6; James, age 4; Sarah, age 3; Calvin, age 1. Also, listed in their household is Eliza Mullins, age 30, occupation: seamstress. Under her name is James, age 4. All are listed as having been born in VA. I am trying to verify that Francis was indeed a Mullins. One source states that she might have been a Boggs. I have not been able to find anything on her ancestry using either the Mullins or Boggs surname. If anyone has any information regarding her I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Sharon Flora

    2. Marian Dunlap
    3. Carol, I don't know if you have had other replies to your request for the information on all the Smiths in the 1850 Lee Co VA census. I subscribe to ancestry's census and just checked to see who it would show. There was page after page of Smiths--it said over 3,000 of them--there were 20 listed per page and I looked at the first two pages which was still showing that surname in District 31 in Lee Co. Sounds to me like you had better go to your local library and let them order that census for you inter-library loan so you can do some comparing of given names as you go! I only asked for the one spelling, so it is possible there are additional names with the alternate spellings. Don't know what the going rate is today but it used to be maybe $3 to get a specific census inter-library loan. One reason I was curious was that my Edmond Pace had married a Frances Elizabeth Smith in Guilford Co NC, and they were in Lee Co by the 1830's. I couldn't find them in 1850, but eventually found they had moved over to Claiborne Co TN for a few years and before the 1860 census they had returned to Lee Co and remained there until his will was signed in 1885 and probated a few months later. I believe my great-grandmother Eliza Jane Pace was born before their marriage and I have no idea who her mother was. In 1829 there was a bastardy case naming Edmond Pace and Frances Smith in Guilford Co, and they were married during 1830 there, with his name spelled Edmond Pacey and she was listed as Frankey Smith. An Absolem Pace signed as his bond, and we believe he was a half-brother of Edmond Pace. Their son John appears to be the child who would have been the reason for this bastardy case. Their descendants have wondered more about her Smith family, and we have seen that she was born in Chatham Co NC. There was a Smith living near them I think it was in the 1860 census, but the name meant nothing to me.
