To all, I did notice some time ago that some of the census images on Genealogy.com comes from Heritage Quest. I also noticed that Heritage Quest does not have the 1850 and I believe maybe a few others that are on Genealogy.com. For whatever reason. On Genealogy.com, some of the census records are not indexed in the "Census Subscription", but if you have the "Genealogy Library Subscription" some of those are indexed. Gloria, In Loudoun County, VA it is free to those who have a library card and can be accessed from our home computer. It may be available to you at your library; I think it depends on what type of subscription you have. Heritage Quest also has other items that are valuable to genealogists. I have found marriage info for Washington Co., VA (it had be transcribed by someone, but at least it gives you somewhere to start). I has articles and books online for quite a few places. You may be able to get your library to start a subscription. I would think if you have enough people in your county that do genealogy, the county should be responsive. My thanks for the many responses I got to my request re the Census of 1850 I got so many I began to worry about the economy of the nation . Who is working these days? I am "playng" by using the net to do genealogy but so are many of the rest of you. Jim

Gloria, My public library in Columbus, Ohio has a subscription to the Heritage Quest records. I can access them from my home. I know they don't have the 1850 census online. I don't know why. Judy

I live in an adjoining county (Woodford). Called my local library and was told that I could come to the library in Versailles and have access to Heritage Quest. Then I called the Lexington Public Library and asked about a library card. Was told that I could obtain a Lexington Public Library card if I presented my Woodford Co card. I now have a Lexington Public Library card and can access Heritage Quest from my home by accessing the Lexington Public Library web site and using the numbers on my library card as my ID and password. It is totally free.
