    2. Don Quickstad
    3. Hello everyone, I am David Quickstad, one of three children of Don Quickstad. I justed wanted to let everyone know in Dad's computer address book that he passed away this morning. Most of you know he was an avid fan of working on his computer the last couple of years, and I think he would have liked to send out an email letting some of his distant friends and family know about his death. I will include the obituary that he wrote when he was diagnosed with cancer in March of this year. I thank you all for the friendship you showed my father these last few years with your emails, phone calls and visits. You can send emails this week to this email address, after the 15th of July, 2001 you can send them to dquickstad@yahoo.com, and I will try to answer or forward them to whoever I think should get them. Those that were working with Dad on genealogy, his research is still accessible with various other people now in posession. The phone number here at my parents is 320-983-3723, and the address is 15146 62nd Ave., Milaca MN, 56353. Here is Dad's obituary: QUICKSTAD Memorial services for Donald Arthur Quickstad, age 74, of Milaca, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Gary Fehring officiating. Burial will be “at sea” from the fantail of a U.S. Navy destroyer off the coast of Florida. Don died at home on July 8, 2001 after recently being diagnosed at Mayo Hospital, Rochester with stomach cancer. Don grew up and graduated from high school in Waseca, MN, leaving the following day for WWII service in the U.S. Navy. He was home on leave when VJ Day was celebrated. Don was very proud of his 20 years military service in the U.S. Navy, including serving in Korea during the Korean War on board a minesweeper and at DaNang, Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Navy in November 1965 as a Chief Petty Officer at which time he transferred to the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserve. Don then continued his education at the University of Minnesota, transferring to Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN where he earned double majors, BS in Mathematics and BA in Sociology. He then started and completed his career in education at Milaca where he taught algebra and 7th-9th grade mathematics and social studies, retiring again in 1991 from 21 years teaching. He then did substitute teaching for 5-6 years. Don was a man of many talents in various fields, ranging from genealogy research to oil painting, from woodworking to computer work. He was also an avid collector of “stuff.” Most of all he loved the time spent with his three children, who were the highlights of his life. During the school years he not only had his children riding along with him to games, fairs, parades, etc., but also the friends of his children--they were all very special to him. Don is survived by his wife, Alair, whom he met and married in San Diego, CA; his son, Steve and wife Connie of Andrews AFB, MD; son, Dave and wife Nicole of Neptune Beach, FL; daughter, Sandra and husband Les of Andover, MN; three grandchildren, Gabrielle “Gabi” and Jacob Quickstad, and Alexander Weibye. Also, by two sisters Mary Rahman and Jan Liescke, in-laws John and Ruth Ann Johnson and Vic and Elizabeth Thompson, nieces, nephews and special friends, Rudy and Marion Majerle, Howard Bleed and Louie Jansen. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca, the VFW, the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserve and a Norwegian Genealogical Society. Memorials may be directed to Hospice at Princeton Fairview Hospital in his memory.
