The book goes back to Norway only to Knut Olson Austegard, b 1794, Austegarden, Sør-Aurdal, and his wife Astrid Knutsdtr., b 1799, Nord-Aurdal. Knut and 3 children, Knut, Ingebjørg and Siri moved to USA in 1861. They have used the names Austegard and Knutson (both w/various spellings). In the book, it states that they also went under the name Aamodt. A second son, Aslak, apparently came over here in 1858, using that name. The book also states that Ingebjørg and Siri were born in Biri, not Austegardslie, where Knut d.y. was born. My questions are: why would they use the name Aamodt? I have not seen that name before in any online/offline documents, and I don't know of a farm near Reinli by that name. Second, can anyone check Biri for birth records on Siri and Ingebjørg? (I borrowed the Biri-Snertingdal bygdebok but couldn't see any reference to them in there either.) There is a gap in where they were for a time, but why the two would be born there and not the others, I don't know. If I sound somewhat skeptical about the info in the book, well, I am. <G> Information I know (immediate family) is definitely off in places, and I don't want to continue with errors in other areas, naturally.
