Hi, Hope somebody can help me out. I am looking for the parents of Knut Olsen Kjørlie, married to Ingeborg Olsdatter. At the age of 10 he is living with his grandparents (1801 census) on Kjørlie He is describet as "their daughters son." His grandparents from mothers side are Anders Olsen Kjørlie and Ragnhild Thoresdatter. Which daughter of Anders and Ragnhild are the parents of Knut? I expect her to be married to a Ole ....... On the fantastic side of Norudd Bergene I found 3 possibilities, but as Anne was married to somebody else, it might be one of the to mentioned daughters there, Sønnev or Mali. Is it common that a 10 year old is living at his grandparents? Hope somebody know this line. regards, Pia
Pia, I suggest looking for the daughter that died about the time that the son, Knut, was born. One of my hardest efforts to find ancestors in the 1801 census was a daughter that was born in 1896 and the mother died a short time later. The baby and her oldest brother went to live with her parents in another parish. The father kept the two middle children, remarried and had two more children by the 1801 census. As you can imagine I had trouble matching up the families, but using the county wide census, I found the names and ages of the children that fit. I then went back and found the mother's death and the father's remarriage.
