Betty, Would you possibly have any clues on anfin jonson or his wife berit ivarsdatter, parents of ivar anfinson koljordet? I found both anfin and berit in the vestre slidre death records during our samband last summer but have been unable to find the parents of either one of these two. are they too early to be in church records? one died in l746 and one in 1748, so they were born in the fifteenth century. Since anfin is an uncommon name, ive searched a few other places. Darcy hande was not actually a descendent, and so far havent found anyone else on the list that is searching for these folks. Wish I could lay hands on some of those lists again with first names that were at samband but perhaps these two were born too early to have birth records?? any tips you could provide would be helpful. hate to wait until next summer's stevme to pursue these elusive ancestors. p.s. both berit and anfin went by the farm name of ulen, one of the cotter's places on the prestefjeld i vestre slidre. liz blair
Hei Elizabeth, I'm afraid we're dealing with too early a time frame. An edict when out from Denmark in 1692, requesting that all prests in Norway write down in the church books, all births, baptisms, confirmations, marriages, deaths and other data. Some parishes took quite a while to instigate this procedure. These are the records we work with. It seems that the lower in status the people were (husmenn, renters, etc) the less was written about them. This is probably the information your already have: Iver Anfinson Koljordet was born about 1728, and died at age 76 on 11-7-1804 Anfin Jonson Ulen born ca. 1683, died age 65 on 1-1-1748 Beret Iversdtr. Ulen born ca. 1674 died age 72 on 9-18-1746. I found Ivar Anfinson Uhren was engaged to Thora Evensdtr. 7-12-1754. Wish I could be of more help.
