I'm passing on this from Norway List- but it touches Valdres-- some. So any reply should go to Norway List! NORWAY-L@rootsweb.com Hilsen, Janni ********************** It goes like this: My great great grandfather and his youngest son were among those buried near Detroit as a result of this Cholera outbreak. Back in the early 1970's, I made an unsuccessful attempt to obtain information from the Detroit Historical Society. It has bothered me ever since. The family story was that the whole family with the exception of my great grandmother died of cholera in the "pest house" in Detroit. She was given the $200 that her father had with him and a note was pinned to her coat and she was put on a train headed for Wisconsin. My research later turned up an obituary of a brother which said that only the father and youngest son died in Detroit and that the rest of the family made it to Stoughton, Wisconsin where the mother and youngest daughter also died of Cholera and were buried in unmarked graves. That left three children 2 brothers ages 18 and 6 and my great grandmother age 15. It is recorded in the Ringebu KB 1848-59 that the family consisting of the following left their home Sø Bø in Venebygde (Ringebu) on 27 Apr 1854. Einar Engebretsen Bø, b. 30 Sep. 1804, Grønåssen, Hemesdal, d. 1854 Detroit, MI(?) Berit Erlandsdtr Bø, b. 4 July 1808, Ringsager, Ulnæs, d. 1854 Stoughton WI(?) Engebret (Albert) Enersen Bø, b. 15 Apr 1836, Rognås, Nord Aurdal, d. 28 May 1924, Garden Valley, WI Marie Enersdtr Bø, b. 26 May 1839, Rognås, Nord Aurdal, d. 24 Sep 1910, Westby, WI Sigred Enersdtr Bø, b. 30 April 1842, Aspesletten, Vestre Gausdal d. 1854 Stoughton WI(?) Erland Enersen Bø, b. 28 July 1845, Sø Bø, Venebygde, d. Feb 1918, Cook Co. MN Christian Enerson Bø, b. 20 July 1852, Sø Bø, Venebygde, d. 1854, Detroit MI(?) If anyone on the list has any more information about this family or this Cholera event I would appreciate hearing about it. ==== VALDRES Mailing List ==== ============================= VALDRES SAMBAND ========================= VALDRES SAMBAND web page at http://www.valdressamband.org
