    3. Jerry, Hedemarken would not be in Valdres. In Hedmark that I know of there is a farm in Åsnes named Melby and one in Grue. My ancestors came from the one in Grue but came to America in the 1860's. I am reseaching Olena Monsdatter Melby (born 1872 married Ole Rudlang in the US). She reportedly came to the US in 1894 from Hedemarken, but I have not found anything as yet. She had a brother named Ole Melby who died in St. Paul, MN in 1937. I found the record of an Ole Melby coming to Eau Claire, WI in 1888 at 26 (my Ole Melby should've been 30) and was checking it for a possible lead. I have not found many Melbys even though it is supposed to be common in Norway.
