I am lloking for help in trying to trace ancestors of the following family. Knut Knutsen BAKKE the son of Knut Olsen BAKKE and Anne Knudsatter SORSTRAND. He married Anne Jensdatter KAMPEN on 29 Dec 1901 and according to family they had a large family. Anne Jensdatter KAMPEN was the daughter of Jens Engebretsen RANAMEIE and Barbro Oldsdatter KAMPEN. Anne was born on 30 Oct 1902 and baptized 28 Dec 1902. It is believed she was an only child. Her mother died 5 May 1907 and I have not found her father ever to have remarried. Knut Knutsen BAKKE was the oldest brother of my father Olaf Knutsen BAKKE who immigrated to Canada. He never kept in touch with his family and little is known of them. I have found his youngest sister Berit and her children but wish to go on and find families ot dad's other brother and sister. His Oldest sister was Ragna Knutsdatter BAKKE who married Emil Krisstianseen NESBYEN and there was one other brother Bendik Knutsen who was told to have been a male nurse and died in his early 20's. If anyone can help me find any desce! ndants of Knut and Anne it would be gratefully appreiciated. Thank you Ruby

I am looking for anyone with knowledge of a Gul Thompson who lived in the Albert Lee Minn area before the turn of the century. He was the brother of Ambjorg Guttormsdatter Grov ( my great great grandmother) and the son of Gutorm Haraldsen Nord-Grov and Live Gudbrandsdatter. Gul was born in 1822 and came to the US in 1849 according to the Valdres Bygdebok for Sor Aurdal. He probably changed his name from Guttormsen to Thompson when he came to the US. I am going by my family history written by a great aunt who may have thought Thompson when it was really Guttormsen and time diminished her recollection. Also, according to the family history, another brother and sister were living near Gul. I do not have the names, but they might have been Live and Gudbrand as they were the next oldest after Ambjorg and before Gul. The sister lived in Hartland and had been married. I do not know if she had children. Gul had one son who married and had two sons according to the family history. Barry N. I especially liked the Rosemaling - I am a want to be artist (I have been trying my hand at oil painting for the last two years and really am enjoying it). My latest project although not yet finished is a cabinet and I am doing roses on the doors. I sure hope it turns out even half as good as the ones you show. I have a friend who convinced me to try, I never thought myself capable of painting but must say I am pleased with how well my paintings have turned out. Anyway it has given my a new apprieciation for art work of any kind. Second I am intrested in Nesbyen. My Fathers oldest sister Ragna Knutsdtr (Bakke) married an Emil Kristiansen Nesbyen. Emil was born 27 Apr 1891 the son of Kristian Evensen Norbeie born in 1849 and mother Martea Toersdtr born 1853. Emil and Ragna married on 18 Jun 1916 in Fagernas. Emil was born in Fluberg, Sondre Land. Emil and Ragna had 7 children of which I have a photo taken when Emil and Ragna were quite elderly. 1)Kolbjorn b 19 Dec 1916 in Fagernas, ( the rest I have not found records of so do not have any dates but would sure love to find them) 2)Knut, 3)Matea, 4)Kjellaug, 5) Borghild, 6) Einar, and 7)Agnes. I am not sure if this is the right order or not. I would love to find them or their decendants and correspond. Anyway when I seen the place Mesbyen it really intrested me. Thanks for a great effort on your part to put such a web page together to help people like me. There may be no connection to my cousins and the place you are from but it was still intresting. Ruby
I have just started a big job. I am trying to make the Nes parish church records open to interested people via my homepage. I have made a new part and started with the 1786 - 1800. There is so far no conection directly to Valdres area. But seceral persons cane to Nes and some went to Valdres from Nes. Take a look and tell me what you think. http://home.sol.no/~steinv/kirke.htm Best regards Steinar Homepage: http://home.sol.no/~steinv Nes parish churchbooks: http://home.sol.no/~steinv/kirke.htm

I think you mean the bygdeboker for North Aurdal. These will be ready, last I heard while I was in Fagernes in June - was 2003. There should be at least six books as there are six parishes. A few years ago I was told that they were currently working on a Bygdebok for Fagernas and that it would be of intrest to me in researching my family in that area. I have tried to get information regarding it and possible get a copy of it but noone has so far let me know how. It was in 1988 that I was told the book was being compiled and should be finished within a couple of years. I have asked a cousin about trying to get a copy but so far have not heard back from her regarding it. If anyone out there can tell me if this book was ever printed and if so how can I get a copy of it and how much it cost? I have been trying to see if it has become available on micro fische but so far not. Please I would love to get a copy no matter what the cost. Thank you to anyone that can help me. I would pay all cost including shipping. Ruby
Norodd Bergene, from Aurdal, NO, lists these in his connections to Sor Strand: http://home.sol.no/~noroddb/Html/people/p0000076.htm#I2064 Some are my connections, too. Hilsen, Janni in Calgary, AB

Don't you mean that your Anne Knudsdtr. was born 9-28-1869 instead of 9-28-1895?! It just caught my eye. I looked up on the microfilm of the church records (same as the Mormon film), film #307309, item 144, page 83, and found Anne Knudsdtr. born on this date, baptized on Oct. 24, dtr. of Knud Larson Sørstrand and Beret Gulbrandsdtr. Sponsors or god-parents were: Jul Olson Ranum, Guri Gulbrandsdtr. Ranum, Ragnild and Sigri Olsdtr. Strand, (? can't read) Monson Strand. This Anne Knudsdtr. Strandseie, age 26 (father Knud Larson, a farm worker) married on 10-3-1893 in the Svennes church in N. Aurdal to Knud Olson Døvreseie, age 26 (father Ole Knudson) Please clarify this for me.
