Does anyone have an Ole Tildem of Slidre (ca 1640) in their line? Thanks, Jerry
Hi--There was a Christian Evanson married to a Ragnild Brekke who lived in the Perry community of Dane County, Wisconsin. There should be much information available from the people there. If interested, contact me and I'll give you a name or two.--Dick ---------- > From: Karen <odyssey@chorus.net> > To: VALDRES-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [VALDRES-L] Family of Christian Evenson > Date: Saturday, December 11, 1999 5:57 PM > > GGGRrandfather, Christian Evenson was born in Valdres on 24 Dec. 1819. Greetings to all, I just wanted to quickly correspond to the people who have assisted me thus far. There is information coming at me from all directions (not that I mind it all) and I am going to have to find time to sort it all out reply to everyone. For now, I would just like to say how unbelievable the flood of information that I have received has been considering that I posted my query only 24 hours ago. These are the first lists that I have subscribed to and I would find it very hard to believe that any other lists are more accommodating than these. My great thanks to all. I will sort everything out and send proper thank you's to each one of you personally. I am visiting the Viking Cemetery tomorrow in Richland County ND and I also have information from the Walcott cemetery. I would be glad to pass on anything that I have and/or do lookups from either place. I am planning to do full transcriptions of both in the spring if it is not already done. All the info I have received today has already convinced me to pitch in and do my share!!! My best regards to all of you and may you and your families have A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW MILLENNIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GGGRrandfather, Christian Evenson was born in Valdres on 24 Dec. 1819. He married Ragnild Nielson Brekke who was born on 26 Dec. 1819 and was from Numedalin. I am looking for any information on either of them and their ancestors and descendents. Thanks for any help. Karen
Tom: The spelling of the town in North Dakota is actually Walcott. Just thought you'd like to know, in case you ever look for it on a map. Hei Tom, You don't know until you ask. I'm the genealogist for the Valdres Samband Lag. There is only one Follunglo farm in Norway, and that's in Valdres. At times, Valdres people married Hallingdal people. You wrote "Karl" Follinglo - I'm sure it should be Kari. Follunglo is in the Svennes parish of North Aurdal, a part of Valdres. Do you know anything more about Kari? What is the birthdate you have? Do you know who her father was? Or at least, his first name? You can contact the genealogist for the Halling Lag. Hello, I am a first timer so hopefully I am doing this correctly. Looking for information on Karl FOLLINGLO (b.1872 in Valdres Norway-d.1947 in Walkout, ND). She married Knit HEELING in 1893 in ND. What I am looking for specifically is Knute's birthdate. I have sources listing him born in three different years. The one that I believe is correct is Knute being born in 1873 in Hallingdahl, Norway. His name appears as Knute Sveinson Helling. I have been told that Knute's father was also named Knute as well as one of Kari and Knute's 9 children. I have found alot more info on HELLING (not translated yet) but desperately need to make the correct connection with Knute. Thank you in advance for any information or suggestions anyone has.
Tusen takk. I'll check this one out. Hei Don, I looked in "Norskgardnave" by Oluf Rygh for a name "close" to Firsdon, but didn't come up with anything that might be right. Norwegians often changed their names and spellings, do "Firsdon" can't be relied on as being accurate. You have a year they emigrated. Why don't you contact The Norwegian Emigration Center at Stavanger, Norway. It could save you years and years of searching. My husband's dad came from Hadeland, and left by way of Stavanger. We found his home parish, his age, his parents, destination, ship name, and even money he had in his pocket. Their web sie is http://www.emigrationcenter.com They have an email address at: detnu@online.no Lykke til (good luck) and Happy Thanksgiving! Dear Debbie, It's possible that the children of Gilbert Nelson (Gulbrand Nilesen Ulveneie) used a different last name than Nelson. Because their father's name was Gilbert, they could have used the last name Gilbertson (or Gulbrandsen, or some other spelling variation). Some immigrants continued to follow the Norwegian naming patterns after arriving here. To make matters more complicated, siblings sometimes chose different last names (some using Nelson, some using Gulbrandsen, etc.). They also may have chosen the name Ulven. Chances are that they would have dropped the -eie, because that indicated that they lived on a "husmannsplass" (usually a very small, crowded part of a larger farm in Norway). A Norwegian genealogist informed me that many immigrants dropped the -eie, because living on a husmannsplass was not something they wanted to remember when they started their new lives here. So, it might be worth checking to see if the 9 children you can't locate might have had different last names than Julius did. There are several instances where situations like this occurred in my ancestry. For example, one of my ancestors was named John Olessen Bentestuen. His children all chose Johnson for their last name and used Bentestuen as a middle name. Hope this helps. > > Am posting in hopes any listers may have one of these people in their > ancestry: > > Gilbert Nelson aka Gulbrand Nielsen Ulveneie > Born: 2 Feb 1825 > Place: Ringsaker, Hedmark, Norway > Died: ? > > Spouse: Anne/Anna Eriksdatter > Born: c. 1828-1831 > Place: Norway > > Emigrated: 16 April 1860 with their four children: > 1: Mari, born c 1852 in Norway > 2: Beate, born c ? > 3: Eli born 26 Apr 1856 > 4: Ole born 7 Oct 1858 > > Children born to them in Wisconsin: > > 5: John, born c 1862 > 6: August, born c 1866 > 7: George, born c 1868 > 8: Albert born c 1871 > 9: Julius, born 1 Jan 1874 in Ettrick, WI, died 7 Mar 1955 in Monrovia CA > 10: Emilia, born c 1876 > > another child, Nels, found on 1870 Ettrick, WI census, aged 6, not found > again on 1880 census) > > Julius was found in the 1900 census for Gary SD as a single man, school > teacher. His first son Armand was born 24 Feb 1901. He married Daisy M. Kee sometime before that probably. His second son Leslie was born 10 July 1905 in Gary SD. We are the descendants of Julius Nelson. I know of only one daughter that was born to Leslie Nelson, Nancy French. Last whereabouts for her is listed on Leslie's death certificate as being in La Habra, CA. I cannot locate her. I would like to locate Nancy French or any other person who may be a descendant of this family. It is amazing how we cannot find any trace of the other 9 kids. They did attend church at the North Branch Beaver Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church in WI, Trempealeau County, but later they broke off and formed the South Branch and Gilbert is mentioned as having attended that church. A relative did recently go to the South Branch and could find no headstones for any of the children. I have found 3 Gilbert Nelsons in the WI statewide death index all died around 1898-1900 and am waiting for a reply on that. Where are they? Hope someone recognizes a name! BettyLou at Valdres Samband has been extremely helpful in documenting Gilbert's ancestry, but I sure would like to find the rest of Gilbert and Anne's children. Debbie in Spokane, WA
