Barb notes that she has an email pal in Fagernes. Barb, do you think that your friend might be willing to see if anyone else in the area would be willing to correspond with email pals from the Samband? I would love to write to someone from that area to find out more about it. Gigi Severson Burke, descendant of Jens Halvorsson (Strand) (Follinglo) and Astrid Olesdottir Klevgard, who migrated to Wisconsin in c. 1854. >> Gigi: I'll ask him. Just at Christmas he wrote me a snail mail letter, with his card, to tell me that he's moved. I think his new address is Skien, but he didn't put it in his letter and I'll have to email him and get him to give me the new one. Then I'll ask him if he knows anyone. He's attending University now (his wife is a nurse and they have two daughters, one a teen, one in college) so should know some folks who use computers! Barb

One of these days I'm going to get it out and take a look at it, maybe fill in some blanks, etc. No time right now. Right now I'm more interested in learning about the context in which they lived. Learning more about Valdres, etc. I have an email friend, who lives in Fagernes, with whom I have corredponded by email for almost ten years. He knows some of my distant relatives. I have the Samband location on my Favorite Places (websites), but I don't know if I have the geneology one. I'm going to go take a look at it and bookmark it. Thanks for your information! I know a little bit about my relatives here, so if anyone is looking for information on Haugsrud or Breien I might be able to help them. Thanks for your help. Barb

    3. Since the last 8 years Terje Østro have been working on the farm and family books for Nes and Flå in Hallingdal. This is a great work and the work seems to be never finished. Well, he hope to be soon. There is still a lot of details that is needed to be sure of the information given in the books are correct. Since my time here on the list have been the last year or so there is many families I have come over, many of you have written to me asking for help and I have done the best I could. I will be doing that also in the future. I have now more and more background in what I am doing and the time I need to help most of you is limited because the books are written down and most of the information I already have. Details about farms and names in different periods can vary and this is the job I need time on. I want to ask each and everyone of you to write me back and help me to find family members from Nes and Flå parish in Hallingdal that immigrated into USA and Canada. All this information will be handled over to the writer of the "farm and family" books for these two parishes. Many of the families I have got via direct contact and E-mail exchange. But it is just a small part compare to all the ones that went over. Please write me about ANY names and families you know of. Written informations from books are also important. Or send me your information about YOUR family to me and you can be sure it will be made available to Terje Østro and will be in the books that are coming out. The books will contain your information about your family and where they came from here in Nes parish. This need to be soon. The fast we get the information the more will be into the books. Hope to hear from you soon Best regards Steinar Homepage: http://home.sol.no/~steinv Nes parish churchbooks: http://home.sol.no/~steinv/kirke.htm

    3. I was fortunate that some cousins were able to bring back for me several volumes of bygdebøker from Norway when they returned from the Valdres Samband centennial tour over there this past summer. I kept all the ones in which I am interested, but have a 3-vol. set of Etnedal books by Harald Hvattum that I would be willing to sell for the price I paid for them. I will pay the P & H if paid in advance. They have barely had the covers opened and still have the original dust jackets on them. If you are interested, drop me a line and I will advise of my mailing address. D'Arcy Hande
