    3. Dear Listers.... In May I will be traveling in Norway for the first time and would very much like to meet some distant relatives, but their whereabouts remains unknown to me. Allow me to share some clues: My gg grandfather is Trond Olsen KJORSTAD born December 1, 1800, in North Aurdal. He married Inger Eriksdatter REVLING, born February 14, 1803. They emigrated to Wisconsin in 1866 and both died there. One of his six siblings remained in Norway. She is Tora Olssdatter KJORSTAD, born in 1810 . She married Ole Eriksen ØDEGAARDEN and they had seven children: Marit, b. 1838 Maria, b. 1840 Ole Sørum, b. 1843 Tora, b. 1846 Erik, b. 1848 Ulrick, b. 1851 Tore, b. 1853 Tora and Tore eventually came to the US, but the others remained in Norway. If any listers have information on the descendants of these family members, please let me know. It would mean a great deal to me to be able to get acquainted with these oh-so-distant cousins. Tusen takk! Carol condit@peakpeak.com

    3. Hei Mary, No, this isn't the right place to post this, as the Minsaas is in S. Trondheim. If you can access the Oluf Rygh volume 15, page 126, you will find this farm and the parish - the parish name is all important in order to find ancestors further back in them. The book is named "Norske Gaardnavne" and is available through the larger Scandinavian type colleges and universities, or on microfilm at your closest Mormon library (Family History Center). I know there are a number of bygdeboker (histories of the farms and those who lived on them) dealing with parishes in S. Trondheim, but I don't know the right one to direct you to. These can be gotten via interlibrary loan through your local library, but you have to find the right parish. Another way to find the parish is to access the news group soc.genealogy.nordic Norwegians are most kind in answering questions like this. 1. Re: [VALDRES-L] Minsaas Genealogy
    2. You may not find too much information about your MINSAAS and the other names you mentioned on this list. Valdres is in Oppland, just northwest of Oslo. Verdal, on the otherhand, is in Nord Trndelag. You'll find the Verdal Kommune slightly northeast of Trondheim. Verdal had three parishes: Stiklestad, Vinne and Vuku. The Minsaas (also spelled Minss) farm is located about 3 miles northwest of Stiklestad, I believe. 3. Hei, I'm the genealogist for the Valdres Samband Lag. I looked at our available exit lists (not complete) plus microfilms of the church records for Vang, E. and W. Slidre, N. & S. Aurdal and Etnedal (all parts of Valdres) and do not find Bernt Jorgensen b. 1859. Do you have a farm name for him, his brother Johannes and/or the father, Christian Jorgenson? 3. Hi, I have been a "lurker" on the list for some time, but this exchange moves me to take the plunge. Barb notes that she has an email pal in Fagernes. Barb, do you think that your friend might be willing to see if anyone else in the area would be willing to correspond with email pals from the Samband? I would love to write to someone from that area to find out more about it. Gigi Severson Burke, descendant of Jens Halvorsson (Strand) (Follinglo) and Astrid Olesdottir Klevgard, who migrated to Wisconsin in c. 1854.
