I'm not having much luck finding the English translation of the following words, found in Norwegian burial records. Can anyone help? 1. "broktilfælde" 2. "Qvalme og Hævelse" 3. "Hjernebetændelse" 4. "bygslet grav" Thanks, Vickie in MN
Hei Vickie, Can't translate it. Asked my husband too, who grew up speaking Norwegian....he doesn't know either. Why not try putting the query in the newsgroup soc.genealogy.nordic Norwegians are most kind answering questions like this. Lykke til (good luck!) I've been lurking on this list for some time. After these emails, I checked Norton Anti-Virus and sure enough, I have an item in quarantine known as the kak virus. I was interested to see the virus warning, because I am fairly certain that I picked up the "kak" virus not once, but twice, from connections with Scandinavian research. Actually, I have found it fairly simple to deal with through the virus protection and virus (what is the term? eradication? cleansing?) functions of the protective system I use. I'd be interested to know if others have experienced this. Hi, After a very hectic time I can work a bit with my Valdres genealogy again and I hope there is somebody who knows a bit about these lines. I am looking for information about Ola Olsen Nørsvin born ca 1740? Can his parents be: Ola Gudbrandson (1685-1741) married to Rangdi Torsteinsdatter? Ola Olsen was married to Marit Embriksdatter, and lived at Lykkja i Høre. All information very welcome, regards, pia
Valdres Bygdebok (Volume B, page 258, 259; Volume C, page 261): Ola Gudbrandsson Berge(r) (1686-1742) was a widower when he married Ragndi (or Ragnhild) Torsteindatter (1714-1804). It appears Ola Gudbrandsson was first at Nørsvin, and later moved to Lykkja (#101/6) under Berge. They had two children: Gudbrand Ola (1742- (Volume C, page 262): Ola Olsson Nørsvin (1742- ) was a "brukar" at Lykka from about 1770-1790. He married in 1770 to Marit Embriksdatter (1749-1789) They had 6 children: 1. Ola (1771- ) He took over the farm, and in 1797, he sold it to his brother-in-law, Knut Trondsson Kvie. 2. Embrik (1773- ) 3. Berit (1774- ) Also known as Berit Olsdatter Berge. She married Knut Trondsson Kvie in 1798 and had one daughter named Marit. 4. Embrik (1778- ) 5. Ragndi (1781- ) 6. My server has blocked the last four Valdres-D emails because they said it contained a virus! Maybe you could check it out on your end.........Don
. For those of you who did not get this previously. Have no idea of how long this will take. Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. It will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with increased performance and reliability for future growth. In the meantime, please take time to visit RootsWeb.com's sister sites -- Ancestry.com and FamilyHistory.com -- where you will find additional tools such as message boards, communities, and databases to help you in the search for your ancestors. Thank you for your patience. --The RootsWeb Staff
After telling my Vietnamese clerk with the name "Lien" on her badge that I had Norwegian ancestors with the same name, we agreed it was probably a fairly random coincidence. But then, we weren't linguists! Nancy Snyder
I have always wondered what the connection is between the Chinese names and the Norwegian names. Names like Vang, Hong, Thor, Lein all appear in both cultures. Thor is one of the 13 clan names of the Hmong who migrated to the United States after the Vietnam War. Would love to hear what you all think about this. Shirley
Hi Everybody, Names are interesting. I know a Chinese man whose name is Lien. The name Lee is also a common Chinese name and some even write it Lie. John
Yes, I too have wondered much about vang in valders, such a common name is asian culture. liz >I have always wondered what the connection is between the Chinese names and >the Norwegian names.
