I am researching my UZZELL family from Isle of Wight County, and I have been unable to determine for sure when our original immigrant, Thomas UZZELL, actually came to Virginia. It is possible that he came with the group of Huguenots who arrived in 1699 from England, most of whom settled in Manakintowne, VA. Some of that group chose to stay in the Norfolk area. I know Thomas was a Huguenot. Are any of you researching Huguenot settlers in Isle of Wight County? If so, do you know when they actually arrived? In what part of France did they live before fleeing to England and America? I would appreciate hearing from all of you, because I suspect that my Thomas UZZELL would have known your ancestors and possibly been kin to some of them. Thomas bought land in the county in 1713, but I suspect that he had been there years before that. His name can be found on many land appraisals and other documents in the county. Any information you may have about him, specifically, will be appreciated. Thank you. Kathryn kauzgr@aol.com "A family tree can wither if nobody tends its roots."
