Immigration patterns indicate descendants may have gone to Bertie, Halifax, Martin, and Beaufort counties in North Carolina during the 1700's, where there are records of William Cone, Neal Cone and Peter Cone. Were these three brothers, and sons of William Mackeone whose Isle of Wight County, VA LW&T dtd Nov. 10, 1711 shows sons of the same names. Did the sons drop the "Mack" prefix on moving to Carolina??

    2. Daniell McCleney
    3. That's very interesting information. I'm going to have to find a copy of that book! Still, I speculate that my earliest McClenny ancestor was probably actually a Clenny, or Clenney. I also saw a reference to a John MacLenny who emigrated from the UK in 1656, as well as a John MacLeny, also emigrating from the UK in 1656. It's speculated that these are actually the same person. Hard to tell. All that I know for sure is that my ancestor William C. McClenny was 56 years old in the 1850 Census of Isle of Wight County. His wife Elizabeth was 55. I haven't been able to locate William's parentage or even Elizabeth's maiden name. What would be the best place for me to look for this information? I wish I was closer to Virginia! I'm something of a novice at this genealogy stuff, the vast majority of my research has been on the Internet. Much of what I've learned also comes from speaking with family members I never knew I had. I really need to find out more about doing "real" genealogical research! Daniell (two Ls! I'm a girl!) Is she related to the same Whitfields? Rachel and William had 10 children: William, Elizabeth, Sarah, Patience, Bryan, Charity, Needham, Rachel, Mary, Louis. There was a "Female Whitfield" listed as their first child, but it looks like she died the same year she was born, 1742. Do you have the same children listed for them as I do?
