Willis was on the 1790 and 1799 Tax Lists in Isle of Wight Co., VA along with Wiley, George, Jesse and Sarah LANKFORD. His son Elias was also on the 1790 taxlist but had moved to Northampton Co., NC by 1799. I would be interested in comparing notes on LANKFORDS in that county in the 1700's with you. Married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Powell, daughter of Moses Powell and Prudence Garner, who also moved to NC from Isle of Wight County, VA. I believe John's father may have been named Robert, and that his mother's maiden name may have been Bailey ... but numerous attempts to find info on John Bailey Smith's parents and beyond have been fruitless ... hoping someone can help.

I know this is a long shot, but I have a John LAWRENCE Jones, b. 12/8/1776 in Unknown, who m. Lucy Taliaferro, dgtr. of Dr. John Taliaferro, in 1797 in Surry Co., NC. John L. was brother to my Joseph Jones and had 2 other known brothers, Gabriel, and Thomas who seem to have followed the Exum's and Taliaferros to Hancock, Baldwin and Wilkinson County, GA bef. 1800. My Joseph Jones apparently was married to Mary ? and had children named: Polly, Hiram, John Gabriel, John Lawrence and Thomas. I believe my Jones' may have been related to the Sugar Jones' originating in Isle of Wight. Thank you.
