Surnames: Seymour, Fleete, Cooper, Mitchell, Nunn, Martin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZBC.2ACI/741 Message Board Post: I am posting this to offer to look up ancestors who are supposed to be from Isle of Wight in around 1630-1700 and you are having trouble locating them. I found mine in Maryland archives and on early Maryland land survey list. By way of explantion , in around 1630's William Claiborne , a Lancaster and Isle of Wight landholder goes to Maryland, specifically Kent Island and Talbot County to settle an Indian post for VIrginia Puritan protestants. He offers cheap land to men who will settle this land with him, Many leave behind families in Virginia with inlaws, cousins, etc and some own land in both places. When the Catholic Lord Baltimore comes along, the group called the Virginia Marylanders fights Baltimores Catholics for this same land and through the courts Claiborne and the Virginians lose, but this takes about sixty years total to expel all the Virginians from Maryland. THis is right across the border. And by 1700 most men are back in Lancaster and Isle of Wight. But so fa! r, I have found William Mitchell, Thomas Poole, John Nunn, Henry Fleete, my Seymours and others in both places and on the Archives of Maryland, there are online court cases that are searchable just filled with Lancaster and Isle of Wight families. Let me know. Maybe we can trade info.

According to the SSDI, she was born 4 April 1899 in Virginia and died Feb 1986 in Smithfield Va. Her SS application should have her maiden name, name of her parents, etc. On the Ancestry.com website, you can obtain her SS # and also print a form letter to SS requesting the copy. There is a minimal fee for the copy, but the information you can obtain is well worth the expense. Pat C. Johns in Va.
