BlankTown Incorporated When incorporated by an act of the NC General Assembly on Feb. 25, 1891, Pikeville had a population of 48. Rapid growth boosted that population to between 750 and 800 citizens at one time. W.L. Pike was the first mayor. Other mayors have included W.H. Ham, W.E. Ham, W.R. Wilder, Jr,. A. Hosea, W.E. Hales, George Barnes, J.S. Collier, E.P. Vail, S.S. Fleming, E.A. Killette, Ray S. Smith, E. Norwood Crawford, Sly Fleming, Martin Allen Vail, Eugene Roberts, L.D. Edwards and Alpheus Jones. The former home of the late Effie Vail at Main Street and US 117 was rezoned in March from residential to commercial for use by Mrs. Margie Wells for an accounting business. Robert S.
