BlankSection 6. Just outside of the town of Arlington at the end of Prospect Ave. Owned by the Town of Arlington and operated by the Cemetery Association. The grass is very well maintained. Some of the gravestones are missing. Others are broken or in locations other than their original locations. Some graves do not have markers. The earliest burial appears to be 1837. BlankThe following is from the Amboy News: Obituary of Mrs C.P.Miller A saintly character, a consientiously good citizen, a "new woman" in business and politics fifty years in advance of the rank and file of sisters, yet alway womanly and kind, a foreful influence for good in the community-such was Mrs C.P. Miller, beloved by young and old throughout the sixty-two years which have passed since she came to Amboy a bride. Especially has her influence been felt by the scores of little folk-some of them now grandparents-who have passed under her tutelage in the primary class in the Methodist Sunday School and whose affections she won at the start and always retained. Funeral Services were held Sat. Jan.21, in the First M.E. church with the Rev. M. D. Bayly officiating. The Rev. A.C. Petrie of the First Congregational church took an impressive part in the service. Members of the W.C.T.U. formed a guard of honor. The pall-bearers-all members of the First M.E. Official Board were; Dr. W.L. Berryman, George Lewis, Ai Tuttle, R.K. Reid, F.E.Lewis, and F.B.Keller. Internment was made in Prairie Repose cemetery. Mrs C.P. Miller, nee Mary C Vail, was born in the village of Greenbrook, Middlesex Co, NJ on Aug 12, 1835 and died in Amboy, IL Jan. 18, 1922 at the age of 86years, 5 months and 6 days. In her 15th year she moved with her father to Newark, NJ and in 1857 to Kewanee, IL. While in Newark she was a close neighbor of Mr. C.P. Miller. Both wre active members of the Methodist church and spent much time and talent in working out programs.Her husband who survives will have completed his 75th year of faithful service (to the church) on Jan.24, 1922. Mr and Mrs Miller were married a Burns, Henry Co, IL. May 5, 1859 and came directly to Amboy. Her adopted, and only child Leta A, beloved wife of Mr. Theo. Kreiter preceded her to the Great Beyond some 27 years ago. She leaves to morn her loss a devoted husband who has been her companion for more than 62 years; Two brothers-E.M. Vaile of Kewanee and Walter S. Vaile of Rock Rapids IA; a sister in law-Mrs Ida E. Vail, Rock Rapids, IA; ten nieces-Miss Mattie Sedgwick, Champaign, IL; Miss Ora Brow, Kewanee, IL; Mrs Rose Murchison, Palo Alto, CA; Edith Vail, New York; Mrs Zella Pryickett and the five daughters of the late Isaac Vail of Ottawa, KS; seven nephews-Charles A Sedgwick, Champaign, IL; C.E. Pierson, Chicago, IL; Glen Vail in South Dakota; Percy Vail, Kewanee, IL; Walter in Mobile, AL; Richard in New York; Clinton E in St. Louis and innumerable friends in this and other states. Government General Land Office, the State of Illinois, or the railroads which were given large chunks of land as an enticement to build rail lines through the wilderness. The General Land Office records are also on-line and searchable at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ If the document is found at their web site, you can download a copy of the record and the land was bought directly from the U. S. Government. This site does not yet have all of the General Land Office records on line. For example, military warrants from all military action after the War of 1812 are not on-line, nor are multiple purchases, nor swamp lands. You can order the warrant records directly from the National Archives and Records Admisitration (NARA) You need to fill out a copy of Form 84 (Land Entry Papers -- for Federal lands only). To get the form, send an e-mail message to inquire@nara.gov In the body of the message, tell them you need 3 copies of Form 84 and be sure to give them your name and mailing address so they know where to snail the forms. You really only need one form, but it is good to have an extra in case you make a mistake or find another military warrant you want to order. Within minutes you will receive an automated response and the forms will arrive within a week or so. Read the instructions and fill out the form with as much information as is available. If you include a credit card number, they will mail the papers as soon as they find them. Otherwise the process is several weeks longer. The cost is $10. If the document is not found on the General Land Office web site, you can also order a copy of the original document from the State of Illinois. Ordinarily, the record does not give any additional information, unless the data below says the purchaser came from another state. The original document *might* mention an town or county. You can order any of the transactions listed below from the State of Illinois. The cost is $2 per land entry. However, you need to send $5 - you get a voucher good for $3 on your next order. You can order a maximum of 2 entries in one envelope.
