Janie - There is a Benajah Thomas in the 1820 VA census index in Richmond City, page 194 of that census. The 1810 census index, there is a 'Bet' Thomas living in Henrico Co. in Richmond, which is probably your Benajah [names were often transcribed incorrectly or difficult to read by the indexer]; my index gives the National Archives microfilm numbers for this which are M252 [that is the # for VA], Roll 70, page 728. You may order census films thru interlibrary loan from the Library of VA [by year and county] or access them at certain libraries around VA if you live there [you'd have to check around], or thru the National Archives regional office in the VA region [in which case, you'd use the above number, M252 etc.] - again, if you live in the area. These censuses will give you some info on number of children, their gender and age, but no names. Census only started to list names of other people in the household from 1850 on. I think records from Richmond City are fairly decent. Henrico Co. Will Books 1-18 [1781-1869] are filmed on 11 reels with a General Index to Wills on a 12th reel - also probably available from LOV thru interlibe loan. If you find a will for Benajah, then you may learn the names of his children. Vital records may also help you - Henrico Co. has marriages 1781-1850, and much more - you may have to read thru them and see which Thomases have Benajah as a father. Tedious, but maybe the only way. Ditto for death records. Henrico Co. has zillions of surviving records, a small portion of which are on microfilm at the Libe of VA. - but still - a lot to go through. Good luck! Marge in VT << Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Benajah Thomas, born around 1785 in Henrico Co. VA. He married Rhoda Lacy of Goochland Co. VA and had 8 children all born 1810 - 1824 in Goochland Co. VA. Any information on this family would be much appreciated. Janie >>
