Hi, Carol - Vital records films for Henrico at the Library of VA begin with the year 1853, the year the state govt required towns to keep records and transmit them to a central office. However - you may be able to find birth info from a death record which, I believe, are available for the year 1871 on microfilm from the Library of VA thru interlibrary loan. My inventory book ["A Preliminary Guide to Pre-1904 County Records in the VA State Library and Archives"] indicates that Henrico death records go only to 1870, but I seem to remember that they have Henrico deaths up to 1896 or so, then it skips to 1912 and onward. You might check this out since death records often contain a birth date.
