Hello listers, Although I cannot speak to the specifics of the cutbacks in Richmond, you all need to understand them in the context of the cutbacks Virginia is having to make all over state government, because of their severe budget shortfall. This is not a fluke and as a staff member of a sister institution in a neighboring state, we are holding our breath to see what is in store for us in the coming year, since our state is looking at unimaginable shortfalls. When our administrative heads have tried to explain to who ever that not only are we important as the keeper of our state's history, but also important to tourism, since many people come from far away to search through the records, they point to the lack of feedback they receive. So if the Virginia State Library is important to you, let those legislators know, even if you are from out of state. Tell them about the trips you have taken or contemplate. One would hope everyone knows how valuable a resource we [repositories] are, but s! tate budgets are creating a situation where revenue producers are what they are looking at. Jaime
