I am doing research on my Grandfather's side of the family (mother's father). We have gotten back as far as my GG Grandfather Robert T Lewis, who was married to Diannah F. Lewis (Marchant). We are having problems locating Robert's father. I tried marriage records at the Library of VA and land records but the father's name was illegible...even with librarian's help. I do know that Robert and some other Lewis men enlisted in the Civil War in Henrico County even though they lived in Mathews County, VA. Since I have not been able to find any record of Robert's father in Mathews/Gloucester region, I was thinking, maybe his father was from Henrico or lived there. If anyone has any ideas Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
