It was a dilapidated building during the Civil War and only used as land mark for all the forces crawling over that area. I have been looking for possible photographs of it, but have found none. I heard the Valentine Museum in Richmond had the only photograph, but that was bogus. My father called to check it out and received a very nice letter that they had no picture. If you are on Route 1 or Old Brook Turnpike (Road), the tavern was on the right just before Telegraph Road. It is about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile from the Parham Road - Route 1 intersection. There are several small places of businesses and then right at the place where Telegraph Road bears off are some old large trees over to the right. The Tavern was in there. I've always been suprised no one went in to check for foundations. I fear it's been balck topped over now. The actual spot where Stuart was wounded is about 1 and 1/2 up Telegraph R! oad. When I was child we rode our bicycles to his monument all the time. Now I-295 has cut Telegraph Road in two and you can no longer access the Mounument unless you stay on Route 1. This area is rich with history. My father used to pick up all sorts of mini balls, mule and horse shoes back in the 1950's when he was putting his garden in.
