I have a very silly question: How come the vital statistics are NOT online for VA....not the living..but deaths.....I understand if you need an official death or birth, etc certificate, but how come the state of VA insists on keeping the records unavailable unless they are paid for.......?? how can this be changed?......Linda Peyman >From: BeLeaf4U@aol.com >Date: 2007/01/15 Mon PM 01:47:26 CST >To: vahenric@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [VAHENRIC] Vital Statistics Indexes - Online? >There are some on Ancestry.com, if you're inclined to pay for them - also, it >is debatable as to how well these records were transcribed - and also, not >much info is given for parents. This can be changed by people copying the information and submitting them to searchable computerized groups, such as the VAGenweb or USGenweb Archives. It can cost money, which means they have to be donated to the projects, but once people pay for their information they forget to share it as such with others. VA simply probably doesn' thave the money to computerize everything-- it is a full time job for hundreds of people to get all the vital death records online. Seriously, I've been working on kyvitals.org and I know how slow that's going. It does take time and money that no one wants to put in.
