    2. Hi cousin Linda & Mary, There are no Virginia birth records before 1853. A few counties had some of their own records. There are marriage bonds not records of Va. marriages going back to the 1600's though. I have seen books of Quaker meetings going back many years. But I am not sure what birth records there are for Quakers in Virginia. 3. Thank you for your quick reply. I'll check with the counties - I hope I'm looking for the right John Johnson :) God bless you too. 3. You can try church and minister's records, they would have records of baptisms at least, which would give you an idea of when a birth occurred. Local historical societies (and the Va. Historical Society in Richmond) have copies of pages from old family Bibles that list births, deaths, etc. Marriage bonds usually tell the name of the bride's father, unless she was older, in which case all I run across is the listing "Spinster." At what age was one considered a 'spinster'? Nancy ------- Our eyes report to our minds what our minds have told them to see. --Anon.
