St. John's didn't exist when Pocahontas was married. It might have been at the church at Jamestown, or the settlement of Henricus, farther up the James River toward Richmond, which was wiped out in the massacre of 1622. There is a recreated fort and native village, etc. there now, her husband John Rolfe lived in the vicinity; the original location is lost, it was dug up during quarrying operations some years ago. I don't know if there were freedmen's cemeteries in the Richmond area in the early 1800s, there were a lot of free blacks living in the city. If they weren't free, then they were buried on the master's plantation or farm. Nancy ------- I was never lost, but I was bewildered once for three days. --Daniel Boone On Oct 3, 2006, at 12:11 PM, alani2@yahoo.com wrote: > That is what I thought as well, but my understanding > was that Pocahontas was married at St. Johns in > Richnmond.
