    2. I am not at all fond of paying for information, but Ancestry.com has excellent and easily searchable immigration records. If you can get to Ancestry through a genealogy society membership, as we can in the states, then there's direct no charge to you. << >I am asking this for a friend in England- how and where would one > find records of people who immigrated to the US and (probably) became > citizens, around 1900? 3. Try the Ellis Island website. We found my husband's father on that site along with the ship on which he came over, his departing port and arrival port. There was also a manifest which listed all the passengers, including several relatives of his father. 2. Hi tabearc.bandit: I read your E-Mail and I am not sure whether you are just giving information or if you are looking for information on the noble Ligon/Lygon Family. In England the family surname is spelled Lygon and in America it is spelled Ligon. If you are interested in researching the Ligon Family I suggest that you locate the book titled; "The Ligon Family and Connections" by William D. Ligon, Jr. It can be found at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. This book will help you carry your family ancestry of Thomas Ligon and Elizabeth Worsham back to Col Thomas Ligon and Mary Harris of Henrico Co., VA. and then back another 10 generations in England to George Lygon. Regards, Bernie in Virginia
