The monument, marking the place where Stuart was killed was directly across Telegraph Road from "Level Green", the farm of my gggrandfather, Anderson King. King acquired this farm from the Chamberlayne heirs, in 1860. After the death of his widow, Mary Jane King, the family sold this farm to the Rennies, who operated Virginia Dairy. They later sold it to the Cross Family. Unfortunately, "Level Green" was obliterated by I-95 and I-295, but "Montrose", which was the home of Lewis W. Chamberlayne, remains on the back side, away from Telegraph Road.

There is a Curles Neck swamp and Curles creek across the James River from the Presquile National Wildlife Refuge near the juncture of Henrico, Chesterfield and Charles City counties. I believe there used to be a Curles Neck Farm there. Also, there used to be a Curles Neck Dairy back in the 1940s. I will check the Poindexter website. If there are any documents pertinent to Pledge descendants that you would be willing to copy for me, I will be glad to pay for copies and postage. Also if you have addresses of any descendants, and I could contact them for family info. By the way, I descend from Mary Pledge who married John Johnson. The Johnsons were in Virginia and married into the Moss family of Virginia, and the Mosses eventually settled in Louisiana around 1780. My great-great-great-grandmother was a Moss and she was born in Louisiana and died in Texas. I have a copy of the John Moss, Sr. and Elizabeth Massie genealogy by the late Columbus J. Moss of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Richard D. Culbertson Attorney 6428 Arthur Drive Fort Worth, Texas 76134

Missouri I have countless collaterals (and can find descendants) to this day from the descendants of Archibald Pledge Poindexter..as neighbors and (then of course) marrying into my mother's and father's families from 1870s, etc. Here I am referring to cemetery records, documented (well, most of the time <smile>) information from living persons. From Civil War pension and other records they were valued members of my family. I heartily recommend a much better source (before the 1890s) than I in the Poindexter website...http://www.poindexterfamily.org/history/links/WebRings.html They have a large gedcom at the family history site. The Isle of Jersey was "theirs" for quite a few centuries after Wm the Conqueror. My best regards...Janet (Baugh) Hunter (descendant of .Ann Poindexter and Richard Clough)

Have you determined who Thomas Bailey's wife Ann was? My 6th Great Grandfather was William New (son of Edmund New of Licking Hole Creek in Goochland County) Edmund New had several Daughters one of which was Ann New. Ann is the only daughter I haven't been able to find out who she married. Ann's sister Mary New married John Prior/Pryor, Rebecca New married Thomas Christian, etc. etc. Bottom line is I strongly believe that Ann New married Thomas Bailey, but haven't found the proof. They were all neighbors on Licking Hole Creek. Thomas and Ann Bailey were witnesses to the will of John Pryor in 1755. If Ann Bailey was in fact Mary (New) Prior/Pryor's Sister that would make sense for them to witness John Pryors will. My William New (son of Edmund New) was born about 1695, so your Thomas Bailey's Ann would be born about the same time give or take a few years. I found where Edmund New deeded to my ancestor (his son) William New February Court 1722 Henrico County Va. Page 230. John Pryer, THOMAS BAILY, and Joseph Aslin prove deed of Edmund New to William New. Same Court date February 1722 Henrico County. John Pryer, THOMAS BAILY and Joseph Ashlin prove deed of Edmund New to John Tuly. I don't know who Joseph Ashlin was, but I know John Pryer/Prior/Pryor and John Tuly (married to Sarah New) were Edmund New's son-in-Law's, I believe strongly Thomas Baily was another son-in-law married to Edmunds Daughter Ann New. Would appreciate your input on this. Bette (New) Sousa Carmichael, Ca.
