My gr-mother "boarded" children in the late 1920's-30's at her home in Eastern Henrico Co. This is how she came to adopt my mother-Mama was put there as an infant and my gr-parents decided to adopt her. Mama often told stories of the many children that stayed there-sometimes there would be 3 infants to a crib. I would love to know what organization Nanny might have worked with and if any records are available. Nanny's house was near the Masonic Home of VA. Has anyone heard their parents or gr-parents speak of a home like this? Donna Rochelle Kennedy

Mr. Culbertson, I descend from Mary "Polly" Woodall who married Zachariah Bays (both from Virginia originally). Mary "Polly" Woodall was the daughter of John Woodall and Dorothea (Dorothy) Pledge who came to Wilkes County, GA from Goochland Co., VA. Dorothy was the daughter of William Pledge who was son of John Pledge and Dorothy. I do not know how John Pledge descends from Nicholas Pledge, but the first mention that I have found of John is in a deed in Henrico County in 1679/80. In 1687, he deeds land to John Cannon whose wife is "Easter" Cannon, evidently daughter of John Pledge. Do you know if John descends from Nicholas Pledge? I don't think I have come across Nicholas, but Pledge is not a common name that I have found except in Henrico/Goochland, so I assume there is some family connection. The Woodalls were in Henrico by the 17th century also. I would appreciate knowing something about Nicholas, if you please. Janelle Via McKown

It appears that my Brown line may have come out of Henrico/Chesterfield Co. area through Bedford County, Va. into Allen Co. Ky./Sumner County, Tn. area in early 1800s. I haven't been able to learn Jonas Brown's descendants, and would like to compare his lines to my known ones. I live in Allen County and will be glad to help you in your research here. Thanks

Sherry Hello Sherry and fellow List Members, I had to take a little while... to check with a cousin so mine, who descends directly from this pair... so that I would have all my facts. Here's what Marion sent to me and I hope it helps someone out there: In the book Woodsons and Their Connections, written 1915, John Woodson, b about 1697 in Henrico was married probably about 1720 to Elizabeth Anderson d/o Thomas Anderson of Hanover Co. John Woodson, was son of Richard Woodson, b about 1662 at Curles in Henrico Co, married Ann Smith, daughter of Obadiah Smith. Richard Woodson, was son of Robert Woodson and Elizabeth Ferris Robert was born according to his own deposition in the year 1634 at Fleur de Hundred and this is where the massacre occured. Married Elizabeth Ferris possibly about 1656. She was daughter of Richard Ferris of Curles Robert was s/o Dr John Woodson and wife Sarah _________ I hope I haven't left anyone out in this. Marion in AZ ~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you Marion... you've been a very big help. Lisa Grimes [email protected] ... a NON-direct connection to WOODSON... just a lateral thru the RICE-MOSBEY and RICE-STRATTON lines other known affiliated surnames are COX, WATSON, WATKINS, JONES
