He was born January 28, 1824, near Fort Defiance, VA.. Family tradition says he was in the Confederate Army and saw active service until he was incapacitated by wounds. He married Frances Pinckney Greenlee who was born in Rockbridge County, August 7, 1829.They had nine children. Preston died in Richmond, VA, December 13, 1900. Frances died there September 5, 1920. Both are buried in Hollywood Cemetery at Richmond. I live in Indiana and would appreciate help in determining if he was in the Confederate Army, and in which unti he served.
