    2. Janice E. Hydock
    3. Listers: Have obtained information that my great-grandmother was married "on Oregon Hill" between 1875-76. Have located a map for 1864 that shows Oregon Hill but only shows the State Penitentiary as being in that area. Are there any historians out there that might be able to give me some ideas about Oregon Hill and why she may have been married on there and perhaps where? Was this similar to a suburb? Marriage was Melissa Ann Richardson, born 1856-58, to John W. Simmons, no other information known. Am trying to find ancestors for Melissa and have a large brick wall. Any help appreciated! Thanks Janice

One is dated May 11, 1796, and the other, August 20, 1797. Both are deeds selling property in the Rockets Landing area of The City of Richmond. The deeds mention that the Lewis's reside in Henrico County. I have a 1783 tax schedule showing Charles Lewis as the owner of a property in The City of Richmond, Ward II. Charles did not live on the property, but his daughter (and my direct ancestor), did live there, and was mentioned as a tithable. There was also a Catherine Robertson living on the property. One deed mentions Charles and Susanna Lewis, and the other only mentions Susanna. I would like to find more information on Susanna Lewis, marriage license etc. I am not certain that she is the mother of my direct ancestor, Nancy Lewis. > > The purchasers of Rocket Landing property were John Hague, and Robert Omberson. The witnesses on the Hague deed were John Young, Gilley Lewis, Mark Vansewall (?), and Azel Galt. I do not believe Charles Lewis signed the deed, as both signatures look the same. It looks like Susannah Lewis signed both names. One of the witnesses for the Omberson deed was a John Braddock. The property was sold at One Hundred and Fifty Pounds. > > Charles Lewis served in the Revolutionary War out of Fredericksburg, along with his brother Ambrose. Gilley Lewis shows up in Fredericksburg, and on documents filed by Ambrose. My guess is that Charles continued on as a Seamen after the Revolutionary War. I would like to find the deed in which the Lewis' purchased the property, or any information that other Lewis researchers may have. I am particularly interested in any information about Susannah Lewis, and Rockets Landing. There was a company called Lewis Lipkin (or Hipkin), that may have been owned by Charles. > > Any, and all assistance is appreciated. > > Anita Wills > > Anita Wills > >

    3. Greetings, I am new to this list, and seeking information on my ancestor, Charles Lewis, and his wife Susanna. Charles Lewis is listed in the 1783 tax census for Richmond. His property is managed by Charles Hayes, but he (Charles Lewis) is listed as the owner. I am trying to find information on Charles wife Susanna. She and Charles purchased property in Rockets Landing (sometime in the late 1700's). Charles served as a Seamen in the Revolutionary War, and then joined the Colonial Sevices. He was in the Battle of Camden SC, and moved to Richmond shortly after leaving the service. If anyone can assist me in finding information on Charles wife, I would appreciate it. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WBC.2ACI/2446.1 Message Board Post: Since your father was born in April 1910, he should be on the 1910 Federal Census (taken in May 1910). 1920 and Go to <ancestry.com> and type in his name. With membership you can get the page number he is on and actually see it. You will find out with whom/where he was living. His age would be 1/12, meaning he was one month old. Check the 1920 and 1930 censuses also. Go to <www.vitalrec.com/> for info on birth, marriage and death records for the State of Virginia. You say there is no record of his birth, so you need to see his marriage records. I would contact the Virginia State Library (<google.com>, and ask whether Dr. Selden's birth records are in their archives. Your dad probably signed up for Social Security (started in 1935), and <ancestry.com> has records of his application. See your local Social Security office after you get his Social Security number.
