My question is about her maiden name. Was she a LANE or THACKER since in 1850, she and husband Wm. Mallory have Albert LANE and Edmonia THACKER with them, but no relationship given. In 1900 living with Geo./Edmonia Lane, are Wm. THACKER listed as 'father'(he is Edmonia's father, not head of household as should be), so Mattie could be either one of their aunts. Too bad census isn't more accurate. In addition, what to you think about M.William LANE being 'son' William Montgomery rather than 'grson"? Age is almost right--sometimes as close as census gets, AND we already know there is at least one mistake in this particular entry ;-) I don't see how they could have a grdson that old. I will look up JH BAKER in 1850 for you next time I go to VA Lib.
