A question has risen regarding proper list etiquette. As list moderator, I have 2 hard & fast rules. The first rule is based on the purpose of this list, which is to share information regarding families of Hanover County. This is the place to do it. So..... 1. Info swapping is encouraged as long as it is on topic. It may be repetitive at times, but that is not a bad thing. Sometimes the pieces of the puzzles are minuscule, and the info may need to go around the block several times before that teeny, tiny piece is added to the mix to give someone a Eureka! moment. Mail filters and delete keys can be used to filter out messages someone does not want to receive. I prefer those methods instead of restricting the free flow of information. A member might unsub for a bit, giving a current topic time to run its course. My ancestors lived on the Hanover/New Kent County line. As I told someone, it all depended on what part of the farm they stood on when they talked to the census taker. Many went back & forth to Richmond or Henrico County. Sometimes an entire generation seemed to relocate en masse to Richmond. That is why I do not get upset when I see posts referring to locations in those areas. Just as many Hanover families "relocated" to Forest Lawn, they also went to Oakwood in Richmond and Washington Memorial Park in Henrico. Cemetery information is welcomed and appreciated. I am personally dealing with three burned counties: Hanover, New Kent & King & Queen. I will take info any way I can get it. 2. Personal concerns or complaints should be done off-list, privately between members. If there is a problem, it is better to address it first with the other list member or with me, the moderator.
