All you geographers and map-lovers, I need help. My copy of DeLorme's Virginia Atlast & Gazetter (2000) does not show either Beaverdam Fork nor Mychunk [aka Mechunk] Creek. Any good guesses out there as to the present location? I had a colonial collateral--one Nathaniel Williams--whose land was supposed to be in this area. Only, I cannot find Nathaniel in either Louisa or Albemarle Co. I suspect he just abandoned the land. Or, are there any records in Goochland? Here is a deed, which I believe may be from Albemarle Co. deeds (not nice--I forgot to include the source) 23 Oct 1749 Thomas Meriwether of Hanover Co. to John Sorrell of Albemarle for 40 pds. - parcel of land being in County of Albemarle but formerly in Goochland on both sides of Mychunks Creek called the Beaverdam Fork... cor. of Benjamin Wheeler ... patent of Thomas Meriwether of 15 June 1740 ... 200 Acres /s/ Thos Meriwether Wit: Thomas Walker, John Lewis, William WH Hill Jno Fleming D cl Cur Here is a patent which mentions the same watercourse: William Graves, 431 A Louisa Co. on both sides the Beverdam Fork of Mechunk Cr. and the brs. thereof, on the Goochland Co. Line [N60 deg W] crossing the north fork of Beverdam Fork., adj John Graves & nr. Nathaniel Williams; 20 Aug 1747, p. 125, 2 pds, 5 shill. (CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS, V. V [Richmond: Virginia Genealogical Society], p. 312) Another reference to Beaverdam Fork of Mechunk Cr. appears in CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS and indicates another neighbor was John Graves (Pat Bk 26-26, 1747), who was brother or half-brother of William Graves. Your help is appreciated. E.W.Wallace
