    1. [VAHANOVE] VEST FAMILY of Hanover County
    2. Carole Dilley
    3. Dr. Richard S. VEST died 2 Feb 1902, probably in Ashland, Hanover County. He was born 26 Mar 1825 in Virginia. I believe it's probable that his father was William H. Vest (b. about 1801; wife Ann S.) of Hanover County and that William's father was Reuben VEST of Hanover County. Dr. Charles VEST (b. abt. 1798; wife Eliza Anderson) may be Richard's uncle Richard S. VEST was a physician who served as a captain surgeon in the Civil War. He lived in Richmond and bought 2304 East Broad Street from William CATLIN in 1868. The 1870 and 1880 VA Federal census reports indicate he lived there with his first wife, Martha, and their several children and later with his second wife, Dorothy Jeannette FLEET, and their children (Ernest and James). His family sold the house in 1905, after his death. The 1900 VA Federal census lists Dr. VEST, age 75, living in the Ashland Magisterial District of Hanover County. He owns his farm. I am seeking information about and links to Dr. VEST's forebears (parents, grandparents, etc.) as well as general information about the VEST family, who appear to have been long-time Hanover County residents. Guidance with regard to sources I might research would be most welcome. I am new to this list and have noted mention of Cocke's "Hanover Chancery Wills and Notes" and "Old Homes of Hanover County." Is it possible that the VESTs are mentioned in either? Carole Jackson Dilley Rhode Island
