    1. [VAHANOVE] McGehee's
    2. the McGehee's also owned 50 acres of the tract surrounding The Garthright House in the Cold Harbor Battlegrounds and was purchased by the Hanover Board of supervisors to become part of the Cold Harbor Battlefield Park. if you can find a good map of the Cold Harbor area.. during the Civil War it shows where the McGehees house was in relation with the Garthright House still standing.. (magazine North and South just had an article on the Cold Harbor Battle which showed them very clearly in the battlegrounds) it was told to me that the Garthrights actually purchased (or inherited) the land from the McGhees and the Married into the family but I am unable to show that at this time.. info about the purchase and implementation of funds was in the Herald Progress dates include 18Feb 1993, 31 May 1995. and Mechanicsville Local 3 Feb 1993. there was a survey taken 11 Jan 1965 and is in Book 241 Page 363 and a deed for the sale between the McGhees and the County of Hanover made 14 Feb 1990 book 816 page817 -821 I got all of this from the Parks and Recreation Department of Hanover. 200 Berkley Street, Ashland, VA 23005 Carolyn Gathright-Hazelton www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/a/t/Carolyn-Gathright

    3. Some of my Carden ancestors, the granddaughter of James Jefferson Carden, perhaps, married into the Garthright family. John and Louise Bailey Garthright lived in New Kent County. Louise is up in her late 80's and still around. John's sister Elizabeth Garthright married a Petty, supposedly some kin to Lee, Richard, etc. Do you think 'my' Garthrights have any connection with Garthright House?
